Hello, my name is Frank, I'm 34 yrs old. I was 8 when i was diagnosed with Diabetes. Last year in March I had some low sugar problems at work. I am an engineer for Bnsf railroad. So I was withheld from service until the problems where resolved. Well, at these appts. is when i found out something was really wrong. I was told that I have 6 months to 1 year of kidney function left. Well it wasn't even 4 months later I was going in to have a cath. put in. My first Dialysis treatment was October 2007, and I will remember the day my life changed forever. After 4 months of doing the in center thing My wife and kids thought it would be better if we moved across the state(Nebraska)so  i could do the home hemo thing. So after 5 months of dailysis I am now doing it at home on our terms and time. I am on two Transplant waiting lists, One in Denver Colo. and one in Omaha Ne. We moved back home after all my training so we are now back in Scottbluff Nebraska. I got my first call two weeks ago, we made it 30 miles from the hospital and they called to say the organs were no good. I live 7 and1/2 hours away so that was fun. Oh forgot to mention i am wait for a kidney and panaceas. My wife and i have 4 children ages 15 to 4 yrs. Well that is alittle about me.

Welcome to IHD.com.  Your experiences sound exciting to say the least.  I always wondered what it was like to be an engineer for the railroad. I bet you have stories to tell.

:welcomesign; Frank. I immediately recognized exactly what your screen name means, because I've been interested in the railroads for as long as I can remember. I've done volunteer work for a railroad museum, helping to operate their steam locomotive. I've wanted to get a real job with a railroad but my medical issues have derailed that desire. Oh well, welcome to IHD.

Adam

p.s. For anyone who may be wondering, "Run 8" refers to the highest throttle setting on a diesel locomotive.
