Pleased To Meet You

Hello All,
This board is awesome! I wish I knew about this place a year ago. Nevertheless, I'm here now. My name is Cat and I have been on dialysis for a year and a half. I was diagnosed with chronic kidney failure four months before my kidneys failed. The day I was hospitalized and put on emergency dialysis, I almost didn't go to the doctor because I thought I could sleep it off. Thankfully I got up and went to the hospital; I paid my denial off with two months on hemo The first time I saw "the room" I cried--mentally I ran for the hills. "I'm twenty-six and I don't want to die," that's what I was screaming in my head. Being connected to some mechanical vampire seemed like death on installment plan. I considered not being on dialysis as if that were a real option. A vomity, bloated, one foot in grave existence snapped me back to reality. Eventually I was pro vampire and currently pro having a torso that looks like the back of my television set. Minus some mishaps, I am doing well on PD. I work full time, I go to school, I'm interning in my field of study, and I live on my own. I don't hate dialysis but it's not easy. The hardest thing about it is explaining to people what's wrong with me--hell: I'm still learning about my kidney failure! We need a commercial, like Cancer and Diabetes. The biggest jollies I get are when someone gets renal failure on "Scrubs."

Hello Cat and welcome! Looks like you started dialysis at about the same age as I did, 24. Well, I'll be 53 next month, so it can be done. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other!

Cat. Pleased to meet you too. I started dialysis also at 26, did 5 years home hemo then 23+years of transplant, now back on dialysis. Not easy as you say but it's what we must do. Post often here and we'll learn from one another.

Welcome to the community of IHD.com. You sound like you have made a choice to continue with dialysis. I have found you have to make to choice over and over again everytime you walk in the center door.
