Most of the schools in our county are year round.  So, they go 9 weeks and then have a 3 week break, year round.  There are 4 different tracks, so it means the schools always have 3 tracts in and the school is always being used.  The high schools still are on traditional schedule. It would be hard to work around sports, drama, orchestra, etc.    My adult children love the yr round schedule. They can take family vacation any time of the year.   The kids all seem to like it too.     This week is teachers work week at my school----don't even want to drive by--it just upsets me and makes me so sad.  Still miss being there.

Not sure about grade, jr. high, or high school here, but my college classes started today and I missed class by 4 hours due to a bunch of confusion with schol and physical therapy at the same time. I thought class started at 12:30 pm, but it starts at 8:30 am, crap :rant; Classmate texted me asking if I was coming to class, so I called her saying why, did the time change? I'm at physical therapy. Well this time slot throws a monkey wrench into the scheme of things with physical therapy..

At 87 years old my husband's grandmother, who had always been a "frustrated teacher," was able to utilize some of her talents by volunteering at our local schools. They needed people to read to children. It was a short commitment time and very manageable for her. She loved it, and they loved her.

My daughter went back to School today. She is starting the 9th grade, in what she calls "the big School". I guess it is big, meaning its 9-12th grades all in the same building. Thanks to God though, I love the daughter to death, but the wallet sure did take a beating this summer, and back to School was no exception, them designer clothes sure do hurt. Now time to start saving for Christmas. My Mom had 13 of us, how she and Dad did it, I will never know!!!

Rob showing off his pot of gold!

« Reply #14 on: August 25, 2008, 07:57:00 PM »

Brendan starts 4th grade tomorrow.  He was dreading it all month long, however, today he started to get excited about it.  He can't wait to wear his new Sketchers, new duds and new backpack.  Oh and see all his friends of course!

Thank God he is at the age where he doesn't care much about designer labels, just as long as they look cool.  He could care less if they came from Old Navy or Wal-Mart.  I'm sure that will change as he gets older.
