electricity bill--ouch!!

I just got my first electricity bill,since using the NXStage.  My Bill went up about 40 dollars.  Has anyone else experienced this.  What can I do.  Even when I turn the unit off,it still always sounds like it is running.  Can I turn off the pureflow with a batch in it.  I would appreciate any helpful advice!!!

we have a big house with an upstarts unit and a downstairs unit
our daughter turns the upstairs to 65 degree on ON
she is contributing to our next bill
I hate to do that but.......
we keep the downstairs sort of cool while she is living in Alaska upstairs

Hmmmm, this is strange.  We've been on NxStage for one year exactly and haven't seen any difference in our electrical bill at all.  In fact, last month's bill was lower by $18 from June of 2007 (and it's been a hot, hot summer here so far).

How much has your bill gone up, melissahumm?

I'm with Twirl, my electric didn't go up much with NxStage, but the A/C puts it through the roof.

We have been on NxStage for a year and have not really noticed any significant change in the electrical usage, we don't have or need A/C here in the NW, we have to sleep in the same room as the cycler and the PureFlow unit, I unplugged the cycler after each use because the "jewel box" on the back run continuously and interfered with sleep, you shouldn't shut off the PureFlow because the Dyalisate will get to cool for comfort, the PureFlow has a fan on the back that runs all the time, but is very quiet.....

Our electric bill is 30% higher this summer over last year - and it hasn't been that hot  - it's our A/C that runs it up - don't know about NxStage.

What are you paying per kwh?  I think we pay $0.065 or something close to that.  The rate just recently went up, but remains regulated by the state (Virignia).  Our electric bill will very likely be close to $150 this month, just for AC and lights.  We have an oil furnace for hot water.  I am expecting to pay close to $350 mo. over the next year for heat and hot water.  That is the real serious ouch for us.  We are hoping that it will be a little less than estimated because our son is going away to college.  My husband made a solar hot water heater for showers this summer and is taking all of his showers outside.  Doesn't work well for me because I take my showers in the morning.

Check to see if your electric company offers a lower rate for anyone using life support machines.

Was it an actual meter reading or an estimate?  My company only reads the meters every couple of months - all the other bills are estimated.  The bill for the month when they read the meter is always higher.

Wow!  I feel really lucky now.  Our electric bill for June 2008 was $177, and we are totally electric (AC, hot water heater, stove, etc.).  We do have gas logs in the fireplace that we use in the winter for extra heat (we have electric heat, too), and that helps during the colder months (which, in southeast NC are few).  I like the gas logs because if the power goes out, we still have heat.  We also have a small generator -- to keep a few lights, fridge, and NxStage running if we don't have power. 

We never turn off our PureFlow/NxStage system (it's in another room, so its minimal noise doesn't bother us at night).

I don't know where you live, but here in Southern California I got a letter from my neph that said my life depended on my PD machine (which runs 9 hours at night).  I got a form from Southern California Edison and they now give me more kwh as a baseline because I am a medical patient.  Also, if there is a power outage, I am on a list to have my electricity fixed first.  Ask your local electric company if they have something like that.

We haven't noticed any difference in electric use.  We are in an all electric home. 

You need to check the amount of electric used each month, NOT the cost.  I believe all electric bill went up.  Compare the KW used.
