A Dialysis Poem

So many stars
In various orbit
Mysteriously linked
By this cruel thread.
Fate some call it
Common denominator
Of hearts and heads.
And we must choose
How we play this hand
With defiant flourish
If we only can.
No easy task
This show of courage
But we go on
And do our best
As best we must
We must and can.
While the creaky
Waterwheels of the mind
Spin their silent fantasies
On dusty webs of fear
Which loom and loom.
But then advice
And hopeful Science
Join smiles, sobs, empathy
Christ, Buddha, Allah
Vishnu and all his company
To lift a darker gloom
Alleviate our fight
Or offer a glimmer pious
And the promise of a light
Flickering, fading, dimming
Then possibly blazing
With newfound insight.
