My unit switched companies and this company will not allow the home patients to inject any kind'of medicines into the line.. Meaing, they switched me from iv hectoral to oral hectoral (results for me havent been as good). They tried switching me from iv venofer to repliva (my insurance won't cover repliva..) But yet, they still allow me to give myself epogen.
The problem is the iron. The only other way to get it is if I were to go to a hospital once a week for 2 hours for a drip. Now, my doctor (who was the head honcho of the district who just passed.. rip) was going to override that - and he wrote me a script (the day before he passed
) for IV venofer.. to get filled at my local pharmacy.
Now - they won't fill it until they get approval from the doctor and nobody seems to be answering their call .. for almost 2 weeks now, since my doctor passed.
I guess my question is, does anyone else have such a hard time with getting venofer at home? I was on it for almost a year and a half before my unit switched companies. I don't understand why I'm allowed to give myself IV epogen .. but not venofer. My dialysis nurse from the unit will have nothing to do with it because she doesn't want to get in trouble, and plays the dumb role whenever I bring it up.
