Hello All,

I thought I just share this with you guys, but I finally used my fistula for the first time.  After putting it off for almost two weeks, because I was scared of that needle...lol.  It wasn't that bad.  It was a straight needle without the lavacaine.  I'm proud of myself...lol.  Finally, I could get rid of the decatheter thats on my chest.  Hello showers and swimming...lol.  Anyways, I just wanted to share that with you guys.  Take care, everyone.

Just make sure you continue exercising that fistula arm.

From the National Kidney Foundation (U.S.A.):

"Although there are no definitive data in the literature, any intervention that increases blood flow to the extremity may improve the chances of successful fistula development. Therefore, regular hand-arm exercises, with or without a lightly applied tourniquet, are recommended until the fistula matures."

Way to go.  That's great news.  Next thing you know, you'll be doing those needles yourself.  But only when you're good and ready.
