A report is claiming that Hollywood actor Patrick Swayze has terminal cancer and has only five weeks to live. The National Enquirer is claiming in a world exclusive that he has been seeking treatment in California but as of now it has yet to be successful. According to the report it was found in late January and at that point he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer that has spread to other organs.
The magazine promises more details in this week's issue. Swayze has been married to Lisa Niemi since 1975. The couple have been together since Lisa, at 15, began dance lessons with Swayze's mother. They have been flying to the treatment center together.
According to the report the 55-year old actor received three treatments of chemotherapy, and that did make progress and even helped to shrink the tumor but doctors are concerned that it is not enough and certainly wasn't the results that they had hoped for. He was then told that he should prepare for the end.

Doctors have told him they can try other treatments but according to the online article in The Enquirer they are not certain that they will see success. There is no comment from any reps or the family in the online article.

Yeah definitely consider the source, here's to hoping it isn't true. He was working on a sequel to Roadhouse and lots of other stuff. My fav was Dirty Dancing.

I loved to watch Dirty Dancing and Roadhouse.
They are always rerunning them here.

I questioned the source, as well, and tried checking out snopes.com. As of earlier this afternoon, they didn't have any entries for Patrick Swayze. However, just a few minutes ago, I saw an expanded version of this story on foxnews.com. That one seemed to be a lot of speculation, no comment from his reps, only "trusted sources". So still not sure how much truth there is.

Either way, I'm sad to hear this. Dirty Dancing was the first movie that I remember really falling in love with and having my mom go "What's so great about it?" I guess I was becoming a teenager!

Looks like him having cancer is true - just the time is in question according to this article. Was also on nightly news. Funny, I was helping out in Security taking Hep A calls (an employee in one of our stores had it and there was a major calling and cleaning effort) and some of the other people taking calls turned the tv to Dirty Dancing! One of the security officers came in to see how we were doing and said "where's the remote?" It is one that is touch screen and it was on the wall. I told him, 'where else in the hands of a man!' He picked it up and asked me what channel. I said CNN! I had to maintain a level of consciousness to answer the customer calls efficiently and watching Patrick dance took me FAR away!

Patrick Swayze diagnosed with cancer
Wed Mar 5, 2008 6:09pm EST

By Dan Whitcomb

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Patrick Swayze, the dancer and starring actor of such hit films as "Dirty Dancing" and "Ghost," has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, published reports said on Wednesday.

Swayze, 55, was diagnosed with cancer more than a month ago, the New York Post reported on its Web site, citing a representative for the actor.

"Patrick has a very limited amount of disease, and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far.

"All of the reports stating the timeframe of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue," Swayze's physician, Dr. George Fisher, said in a statement released to the celebrity Web site TMZ.com by the actor's publicist.

Several media reports said the actor was in grave condition with only weeks to live, but the statement on TMZ.com said Swayze was continuing his normal schedule and that he appreciated the "outpouring of concern" from the public.

Swayze's spokeswoman declined to comment to Reuters, and no further details were available.

Swayze is best known for his role as dance instructor Johnny Castle opposite Jennifer Grey's character, infatuated teenager Frances "Baby" Houseman, in the 1987 movie musical "Dirty Dancing."

I still don't know how Swayze kept a straight face when he did that Chippendale's skit with Chris Farley on Saturday Night Live. It's a classic, always makes me laugh.
Very sad news.   :(

And now I will have this song stuck in my head all day.. I love this movie too!  Truly saddening news...

Time of my life

I've had the time of my life
No I never felt this way before
Yes I swear it's the truth
And I owe it all to you
'Cause I've had the time of my life
And I've searched through every open door
'Til I found the truth
And I owe it all to you

This is such sad news. Hubby's Mom died from pancreatic cancer in 1980. It took her pretty quick. I'll say a prayer for him.

My husband's grandmother died of pancreatic cancer about a year and a half ago. She had been diagnosed less than 6 months before she died.  :'(

I was madly in love with Patrick Swayze when I was in high school.  I even met him!  He was visiting a local radio station that my friend's sister worked at.  I got to touch his hand as he gave me his autograph (I still have that autograph!).  It was the height of Dirty Dancing and he was soooo popular and HOT.  I must have seen that movie a thousand times by now.

It is hard to believe he is dying.

This is because, just like kidney failure, there are no symptoms until it's too late to do anything (for most people).

Sorry aobut your dad, kit.

Swayze Thanks Fans for "Good Thoughts"

By Natalie Finn
www.eonline.com
Tue, 8 Apr 2008 05:10:50 PM PDT

Patrick Swayze—and, even more importantly, his doctor—continues to look on the bright side.

In a statement released Tuesday, the actor and his wife thanked fans for their ongoing support as he undergoes treatment for pancreatic cancer.

"We're thrilled and grateful for the positive response Patrick has shown towards his treatment," Swayze and Lisa Niemi, who's been married to the Dirty Dancing star for 32 years, said in a statement to People.

"Also, we can't help but feel that all the prayers, meditations and good thoughts sent his way by everyone has made a difference. Thank you!"

Word got out about a month ago that the 55-year-old actor and classically trained dancer was seriously ill, but both Swayze's family and his doctor were quick to refute reports that his condition was hopeless.

"Patrick Swayze continues to respond well to his treatment for pancreatic cancer," his personal physician, Dr. George Fisher, said Tuesday. "Because of his excellent response, he will continue the same therapy at Stanford [University Medical Center]."

I know it's not quite the same but my dog, Molly, has this same cancer. She was given 10 weeks to live last June when she was having seizures, but was put on steroids and is still as happy as anything. She enjoys life, runs everywhere, eats like a horse (that's probably an english saying!!) and loves to see people. No doubt one day she will become worse but at the moment the steroids are keeping her well.  :bunny: You may have seen her wearing a purple boa in another thread  ;)

Patrick Swayze Speaks Out

Tue., May. 27, 2008 7:22 PM PDT by Natalie Finn

Here are some happy thoughts:

Patrick Swayze, who revealed in March he's battling pancreatic cancer, is happy to report he's continuing to respond to treatment.

The Dirty Dancing star tells People he and wife Lisa Niemi—both of whom were spotted taking in the L.A. Lakers' playoff victory Friday at Staples Center—have been keeping busy jetting back and forth between L.A. and their ranch in New Mexico and they just returned home from a weekend trip to Reno to celebrate Lisa's birthday.

"I took her jewelry shopping at Kenny G & Company and [we] were able to find her something really special and much deserved!"

But most importantly...

"In the meantime, I am continuing treatment at Stanford [University Medical Center] and the great news is I continue to respond well."
