I am in my 3rd week of manual PD, I am dying to not fill before bedtime... I haven't had a good nights sleep in 3 weeks.  Has anyone not filled for overnight, so they can get a good nights sleep?

Hi Kimcanada,

I know exactly what you are going through.  I've been on CAPD (manual) for 8 months.  After my PD training, I started CCPD (cycler).  I was only able to tolerate 4 nights on the cycler.  The 5th night I called it quit.  I did a manual exchange that night so I could get some sleep.  I had enough, 4 nights with no sleep and still getting use to the full sensation of the fluid in my belly plus the pain of the drain.  I had enough.  Since then, I've been on CAPD and loving it.

I don't know how many exchanges you do and I don't know if this is an option.  But maybe you can do a manual exchange for the night so you can get some sleep.  Be sure to talk to your PD Nurse or Doctor.  You see, I only do 2 exchanges.  I do one in the morning using Icodextrin 7.25% solution (last up to 12-16hrs) and Dextrose 2.5% solution (6-8hrs) before bed.  I'm very fortunate for now.  I'm hoping this will continue for a long time.

I wish you the best and good night sleep.

I am now on CCPD with the cycler. I found and find that if I sleep on my back, I am okay. Have you tried that?

Good luck hun!  :grouphug;  mikey

I will make those suggestions, I find that the reason I can't sleep is because I get short of breath with all that dang fluid in my belly.  I hope I get used to it soon

Kim,
Is it possible for you to raise the head of your bed a little to help relieve some of the pressure on your diaphram from the PD fluid when you are laying down and trying to sleep?

I have been doing manual pd for 4 years now , i wonder if its really the fluid stopping you from sleeping ? The shortness of breath could be a fluid overload? as i have never had shortness of breath with pd fluid. You do get used to the heavy feeling after a while , like others suggested maybe dont lie flat.
