Hi everyone, my name is Peter, I'm 29 and in Northern Cali.  About two months ago I was told I had stage IV  FSGS.  Needless to say my world was completely turned upside down.  Its been nothing but labs and doctors visits and more labs.  Here I was thinking all this time I was fairly healthy(for being overweight that is) and now i can look forward to dialysis in about 6 months to a year at most according to my doctor.  Needless to say my emotions have been going pretty crazy.  Fortunately I have a loving wife, and now I've been lucky enough to have found this website and see that I'm not alone.  I hope to be around here for awhile, this place looks great!! :waving;

Hi Peter and welcome to the site, I also thought I was very healthy until my legs started swelling up and I started feeling very tired about 4 years ago, I ended up on dialysis about 12 months ago (PD) and I found it not to be as bad as I thought it would be, so try not to let it worry you too much.

  :welcomesign;  Peter, so glad you found us.  It really is a shock when you are diagnosed and haven't seen it coming.   I was given the same time frame, but have fortunately, have held at 15% function for awhile.  Watch you diet, learn everything you can.  Ask lots of questions.  There are lots of great people here that will help with any questions or concerns you have.  You have found a great site.

Welcome to ihatedialysis.com Kidneybogo,

I too have FSGS but still have good function so I have been lucky to not need dialysis. I hope I never need it. You are not alone in this disease so when the chips are down we support each other as best we can. We have become a family here and have a two annual meetings scheduled in Chicago and Vegas.

It would be great if you could make one of them or both. You can find the information in the forums.

 :welcomesign; Peter. You'll find lots of hugs and, of course, information here. My mom is pre-dialysis. It is wonderful that you have supportive people around you. And we are your extended network! (like Verizon...lol). See you round the boards.

Welcome to our community, Peter!  I am glad that you found us at this time.  this site is an excellent place to prepare yourself for dialysis.  I know how much it prepared me as I found it just a few weeks before I started dialysis.  This is a place for information, for support, for fun and laughter, for venting, ranting, raging or raving.  In fact, we are officially a family, with members all over the world.  :grouphug; So please take advantage of all this site has to offer.  Read, read, read, and post, post, post!  we like to know how our relatives are doing!
