My name is Amanda and I would like to share my kidney story with you. I am 28 years old, married, have beautiful 8 year old twin boys, and am a NICU nurse. It all started at work when I noticed my ankles swelling. This went on for quite sometime, maybe 4 months. We were goofing around at work one night and someone took my blood pressure, it was 200/120. Wow, guess I'd better go to the doctor. He ordered some labs, so I had them done in our lab at work. A couple of weeks went by and I did not hear anything so I assumed no news is good news right, wrong! I am able to look up my own lab values since I had them done where I work, whoa, something was seriously wrong but our lab failed to notify my doctor or me. My BUN was in the 40's, Creatinine 8, and blood counts plummitted. After I discovered this I called my doctor and was immediately admitted to the hospital. They tried to reverse the damage but it was too late. I was told that I had 2% function and that I needed a kidney transplant, but in the meantime we'll place a catheter and start you on dialysis. WHAT! They told me they have no idea what caused them to fail, but when in doubt, call it autoimmune!
So, I went on DIE-lysis and felt like death for 7 months. Out of nowhere a friend from my church calls and tells me she's a match and would like to donate to me. I asked her what made her get tested. (This is awesome) She said I knew you were sick but didn't know why, one of your boys came up to me and said mom just can't play with us anymore. She then saw it in the church bulletin that I needed a kidney. She looked at her husband and said "Do you care if I go get tested because I know I'm a match and Know I will donate to her." Sure enough she was a match and we did the transplant and I feel GREAT! Total God thing, so those of you still waiting please don't give up hope!

What a great person your friend from church must be, not just to offer, but to have all the  tests done before she offered her kidney to you, I see it as a very big thing for someone to give away one of there kidneys, she must have a heart of gold.

Yep, I couldn't give up on my babies. I'm so thankful that this nightmare didn't keep me from what I was born to do!
