California is the latest state to require hands free use of cell phones while driving and as this comedic video clearly demonstrates we are all much safer that way.

You're gonna love this.  Since I seldom even use my cell phone, let alone in the car, I didn't bother to buy a hands free device.  Well, my friend was meeting me for dinner one night after the law went into effect, and I told her I would bring my cell phone and drive in the outside lanes so I could easily pull over if she called.  You guessed it, she called just after I had made a left turn and wasn't in a position to pull over, so I picked up the phone, pushed the button, and without putting it to my ear SHOUTED that I was not in a position to answer the phone, hoped that she heard me, and I would call her when I was in a safe position.  Worked like a charm!  Who says you can't beat city hall?!?!?

If your phone has a speakerphone, see if you can program the phone to have a one button press to switch to speakerphone. When I upgraded my phone, I figured that there might be a law coming and got the package with the bluetooth ear piece. I barely use it though and end up wearing it like a dork. ::) :urcrazy;

That's why I'm glad I live in a mostly Republican state, no laws like that here, I drive down the interstate at 75-80 mph using my phone without a handsfree device, chatting away with no problems. Oh yeah, and I can buy alcohol in a bar on Sunday and drive home after I have a few, but I can't buy it at the store to drink in the safety of my own home. I guess they're afraid I'll call someone on my way home from the store and make sure I got everything we need!  :rofl;

I don't care if one is republican or democrat, but the idiot driver who is chatting away on the phone better be paying attention to the road and not the conversation they're having. Had a few friends hit by idiots like this.

As for the bar and grocery store, it is the same here. After 10 pm, you can't buy liquor at the store, yet walk across the street from the store and order from the bar. :urcrazy;

I was kidding, Chris. I have a blue-tooth.  ;)

It just reminds me of something my dad observed awhile back. Basically it's that "back in the good old days" we had more morals and fewer laws, and now we have more laws and fewer morals. Laws like this are proof of that, since back then (if they had had cell phones), we're led to believe that one would use the Golden Rule in this case and a law telling us to be safe about the use of cell phones would not be needed.

Sorry my bad at trying to make a joke reply. That's why I'm not a writer.
I agree, I think we had more morals growing up. It's the blame it on someone else generation now, someone has to watch over me like I'm a little kid. :rant; If you need that much help, let me help you with this  :Kit n Stik; :rofl; :rofl;

Picture this:  I'm pushing my cart of groceries out the door of the grocery store and this (very cute, much younger) guy is walking towards me, looking right at me and says, "I love you"!    Fortunately I was so non-plussed that before I had a chance to reply ("why I love you, too, sweetie pie!")  I noticed the blue tooth....... :rofl;

Regarding the new law:  I live in California, and this law has been in effect for more than 1 month.  I still see the same amount of drivers using their cell phones - MAKES ME NUTS!

Personally, I think if you're going to drive . . . JUST DRIVE!!!  No phone calls, no eating, NO DISTRACTIONS!

I got caught wearing the darn bluetooth a couple times at th meeting in Chicago. I forgot I had it on. I hope there are no pictures of that. Although it did help when I was caught in traffic to let them know I was still on the way, but still keeping eyes on the road.

Which reminds m, Chicago has this law also and the darn taxi drivers keep talking on the fricken cell phone with no bluetooth. I sometimes wonder to just leave the cab without paying and go  I didn't know you where talking to me. Complaint number doesn't do a d*&^! :rant;
Riding in a cab with a driver talking on the phone, not paying atention, and speeding is like going to an amusement park and taking a roller coaster ride.

At least on the roller coaster ride you know where you are going and the ride will end soon.
