it's better to find peace than understanding

« on: January 10, 2008, 06:56:14 PM »

I found out yesterday that after doing a year and a half of PD, they have to pull my catheter.  Unfortunately I got psuedomonis  in my peritoneum and due to my immunosuppresion my body won't kick it.  After thinking about hemo, I became a little bit excited.. no more bloated feeling and pain, I can eventually go swimming, hot tubbing, and take a bath, no more looking and feeling pregnant, and the freedom to go on weekend road trips.  Am I crazy to think this?  During the next couple months I will decide whether I want the PD cath reinserted or do NxStage.  Just curious what everyone's thoughts are on PD vs. Hemo.
Does anyone prefer hemo to PD??  Or am I just being strangely optimistic only to be disappointed later?
((Maybe this is already a thread.. if so can someone point me in the right direction please.))

Me again :)  I would definetly weigh the pros and cons on each, although i hated hemo with a passion, there was some (not many) but some advantages over PD.  If you are compliant with your diet and fluid intake then i say hemo would probably be good for you, let them deal with it, no more supplies and all that jazz, all you have to do is show up and then go home (ugh, it sounds so easy huh) :P  I am glad you came here for input from the other members cuz i would really like to hear what others think about this too.  :2thumbsup;   Good topic MelissaJean  :clap;

I can't offer a comparison to PD - I couldn't do it.  But if you are going to do hemo, then NxStage is far better than in-center!

maybe i'm the crazy one (it's been said before) i like in center. since i'm not working any longer and at the moment we only have one car, if i did anything at home i'd probably never leave the house. and i enjoy the little bit of social contact. people at my center are reasonably friendly, there aren't too many that just ignore everyone. you've got to remember though, i'm the pushy one. my doctor thinks i ought to do pd and i keep telling him "it ain't broke, don't fix it."
