Hi Everyone,

I am married for 31 yrs to my husband, Bob. Bob was a juvenile diabetic from the age of 13. He had many small problems over the years, but that all changed in 1991.

In 1991 he started feeling unwell and progressively got more and more weak. A visit to the Dr diagnosed high bp. Long story short is that, he was eventually diagnosed with ESRD and went on PD while getting listed for a pancreas/kidney transplant. He only had to wait 6 mos for his transplant. The call came at midnite on the day after Christmas in 1992. A sad holiday for someone but a very happy one for us.

The transplanted organs lasted for 15 yrs. A really long time and we didn't know how good we had it until the kidney failed in April of 2007.

Bob is currently doing Nexstage Purflow system at home dialysis. Things are going pretty good but boy does it take up the day!

You never know what life has in store for you but we are hanging in there. I especially appreciate this message board and others that I visit. I thank you all for your time, experiences, help and stories.

1993 diagnosed with glomerulonephritis.
Oct 41, 2007 - Got fistula placed.
Feb 13, 2008 - Activated on "the list".
Nov 5, 2008 - Received living donor transplant from my sister-in-law, Etta.
Nov 5, 2011 - THREE YEARS POST TRANSPLANT!  :D

Hey, Redz!  Glad to see another spouse here (I'm a dialysis spouse).  My hubby kept his transplant for a little over three years, and, you're right -- it hits you hard when you lose it and makes you realize how good it was.  But, for your sweetie and for mine, it will be good again.  I keep telling myself that, and I'm hoping the same for you.

Welcome to our community!  We are so glad that you decided to join us.  You will find that there are lots of people here because of the renal failure of their loved one.  I always appreciate the love that this manifests.  there is lots going on here - above all, we have become a real family.  so take advantage of all that this site has to offer.  and especially, keep posting.  We need to know how your husband is doing.  when you need to vent- we are here.   :grouphug;

i am a 51 year old male on dialysis for 3 years now. This is my second time. My brother donated a kidney to me about 13 years ago. I found this site on another site. I had to laugh when i saw what it was called. I hope to meet people from all over to talk about dialysis.

I too was diagnosed with Diabetes at 13 yrs old . Giagnosed with ESRD in 93 fought it for a year or so
and then PD and Hemo ....Had a Kidney/Panc transplant in 1999 . Still going strong ,

This is a great place , my wife even joined (Kevinswife)

CAPD 1997 , Stopped 1997 due to infections evey 28 days
Started In Center Hemo 1997
Received Kidney/Pancreas transplant 1999 at UCLA
Wife and I had son in 2001 , by donor for my part (Stopping the illness train)
Kidney failed 2011 , Back on Hemo . Looking to retransplant as the Kidney is still working
