PD Catheter Repositioning

I'm going on Monday to have a guide wire inserted through my catheter to see if they can reposition it.
I'm curious if anyone has had this procedure done. If so, what can I expect and did it work.

I had a cathater replaced using a guide wire.  The procedure was quite painless, just a little funny feeling inside while repositioning (5 minutes or so).  I carried on a conversation with another doctor about motorcycles while it was being done, so that was a nice distraction.  The first comment out of the surgeons mouth upon completion was what good flow it had.  Generally, with the guide wire they are able to get it positioned better, I think.

Is this because its moved or curled upwards ?  I have had mine for 3 yrs now (catheter) and when it first went in i was in terrible pain in my side .. anyway after lots of arguments with doctors who told me it was my imagination i managed to get it x-rayed and it showed it was stuck under my rh side last rib !!! (seems this rib is extended on me!) So i was prescribed Picolax to try and bring it down ..it didnt work. So for the past 3 yrs this is where my catheter is and has been, since being done .It works , dont ask me how but if i just move the wrong way its like im being stabbed in the ribs, its just something i have learnt to live with . So i hope yours goes back into position but i wouldnt worry to much if it doesnt!

I had an X-ray and it showed to be farther to the right then it should be. I have been having a lot of pain on my right side and have not been draining very well.

The procedure went well. There was not very much pain and it only took about 30 minutes. The worst part was the 5 hour wait at the hospital. 
They were able to move it a little, but unfortunately it did not help. 
I have decided to leave it how it is and hopefully it will not get any worse.

I'm sorry, Laurie. Darn it all.  I'm glad the procedure went well, even if you had to wait five hours (bummer!!!), but I am sorry there was no immediate improvement.

I'm glad your procedure went well (except for that 5 hour wait!). 

I've been on pd since 10-31-07.  I, too, needed to have my pd catheter re-positioned 11-30-07, just 2 days ago.  Early in the week I was having extreme dfficulty draining.  WellBound (my pd clinic) thought fibrin was blocking my tubes/catheter.
No so.

Doctor ordered an x-ray, and sure enough . . . my catheter had migrated upwards to my upper abdomen. (??!!)

Went to see the surgeon, and she scheduled surgery to reposition the catheter.  It seems my catheter had begun its proper descent on its own, but then the coil became stuck in some body fat.  I'm 5'3" & barely 100 lbs.  (fat?!)

So, I'm back to hemodialysis for the time being.  LUCKILY, the Tesio catheter in my chest had not been removed yet. 

Hopefully, I can resume PD as soon as my surgery heals. 

I had to switch from hemo to PD brcause my veins were too small.  Its a blessing, actually.  I do prefer being at home and doing my own dialysis exchanges.
