Hello, I am a 47 year old woman who has been living with End Stage Renal Disease since 2003. I started hemodialysis in 2004. I have had three failed fistulas and about ten or so catheters. They all got infected. My last one was placed in January 2006 and it has been working well.  My sister was going to donate a kidney to me. She had all of the tests and she was a perfect match. I had to lose a lot of weight before the doctors would do the transplant. I lost the weight and then my sister got cold feet. She decided not to donate. I have been on the List for two years now but I have never gotten a call. I have a very rare kidney disease called C1Q Nephropathy.

On the bright side I have two wonderful sons ages 11 and 10, two beautiful Boxers and three cats! I love to read and garden. I used to love to snorkel but I haven't been able to get my catheters wet so that is on hold for now. A friend who is not a kidney patient told me about this site. I wish I had discovered it years ago. I look forward to getting to know all of you.

 Welcome to the site Kidneygirl.  There are lots of good people and much good information available here.  Sorry your sister backed out but it did spur you to do something good for yourself in losing that weight.  Again welcome to IHD.

Welcome to our community!  I too wish you had found us before, but anyway, it is so great to have you with us now.  There is so much on this site to inform, entertain, and crack you up as well.  This website has become a real family, so I am really welcoming you to our IHD family.  Take advantage of all the site has to offer.  But don't just read and read, you also need to post and post.  We need to know how things are going with you and your great family (that includes the animals), so we look forward to hearing much more from you.  Here is a group hug from all of us. :grouphug;

i am a 51 year old male on dialysis for 3 years now. This is my second time. My brother donated a kidney to me about 13 years ago. I found this site on another site. I had to laugh when i saw what it was called. I hope to meet people from all over to talk about dialysis.

Hi Kidneygirl,  Welcome to ihatedialysis.com.  :2thumbsup;  Sorry about your sister getting cold feet and not donating to you, hopefully you will get that call soon.   I would love to hear how you lost your weight (i am in that predicament myself) but while being on PD, it is a little tougher for me  :thumbdown;   If you have any pics of your Boxers we would love to see them, we have a thread for pets and pics of our pets in the Off Topic thread.  My niece tried to have a Boxer but they are too high maintenance, wait til i tell her you have 3, lol,  Look forward to hearing more from you soon.  :cuddle;
