I wrote a letter to my donor's family right after transplant.  Along with mine I sent one from my daughter and a few from loved ones who wanted to share their gratitude.
Last week at clinic, I received a response.  It was from my donor's wife.  She was so pleased and comforted that her husband's death resulted in so many people being blessed with the gift of life.  It was a heartwarming letter that made me cry.  I plan on staying in touch with her and her family.

If you have had a transplant and are hesitating to write a letter, please write that letter.

Thanks Vandie, for sharing that. It is such a generous gift that a family passes along - and to have their effort acknowledged and appreciated must be comforting to them after losing a loved one.

Going through life tied to a chair!

Yes, because that is all they get is a letter and the comfort knowing their loved one lives on in someone else.

After 6 years I finally met my donor's family back in 1993.  We have been close ever since and still write even though my kidney is gone.
When I finally lost my kidney they grieved with me.
