I just finished my first month using the Nx Stage System 1. I have the system plus the pure flo. I dialyze in the morning for about 2 1/2 hours with about an hour of set up and clean up. I know this time will shorten as I get more experienced.
The system is great. I feel better doing this every day. My weight gain went from an average 2kg per day at the clinic to less than 1kg per day at home. I can actually see my feet shrink! My legs now are normal in size and my wife says she notices a major difference in my face. I am sleeping better and definitely have more energy. I don't miss the clinic at all.
My wife is getting used to me self-cannulating (sounds like something the nuns told little boys not to do) - she almost opens her eyes. I have a good buttonhole going for the venous access, but I am still working on the arterial access buttonhole. The sharp goes in easily enough, but if I try it will the blunt I just push the vessel around.
I really like the idea that I am in control of my own health. The people I work with are very good. They treat me as an adult and make adult suggestions where necessary. The social worker seems to be tireless; I am anxious to see her perform. The dietician is young and personable and has a great sense of humor. Anybody who laughs at my jokes has a great sense of humor.
I really recommend this approach to home hemo - I am very pleased so far.
