Severe pain in my toe..

I had an in-grown toenail removed "surgically" on my right foot a month ago now, and ever since I have been on severe pain 24/7... ugh. I called about the 2nd week after it was removed b/c my toe looked infected, and they gave me some antibiotics... it started to feel a little better on day 4 of the antibiotics, however I don't think the infection was completely removed b/c after I finished the 10 days the pain came back even worse. I see the toe doctor tomorrow... I am just hoping the pain is being caused by something he can see, and it's not something where he says " I don't see why your having pain"....
We shall find out tmr... just wondered if I could just be slow healing or what?

My 12 year old son had surgery for an ingrown toenail a month ago and got immediate relief. The podiatrist also injected something in the nail bed to prevent the regrowth of nail, as it will most likely be a reoccurring problem. My husband and other son have the kind of nails where there is always potential for a problem. Hopefully this will resolve it.
I am sorry you're having this trouble. Be sure to emphasize the pain level, if it makes it difficult to wear a shoe, if the pain wakes you at night just from a sheet touching it, if you had to give up skateboarding (that was my son) so that they take you seriously. Since you are already on pain meds for your legs, they have to made to understand that the pain is immense despite your medications!
Good luck Angela!

I feel your pain! I had the same problem a number of years ago and had parts of both of the nails on my big toes removed and the chemical to stop them from growing. I too, had pain for a while. It turns out, I had an infection. They had to give me a stronger dose of antibiotics and for a longer period of time because they didn't work the first time. Good luck!

Well my appointment lasted all of 5 minutes today. He looked at my toe, said it looked "great".. I was like, WTF.. It hurts like a bitch. He said he don't see any infection, and it's probably just the skin growing back and it's still healing since I am a slow healer... If it still hurts like this at my next clinic appt I shall have my dr's look to make sure there isn't something that can be done or seen wrong with it by then.

What kind of doctor was that? no exam, no nothing? Everyone i know that has had an ingrown toenail removed hasn't had pain (except for 1 and she had a spur growing from her toe bone) so that might be something that you can ask your doc too, good luck, and Godspeed

A foot and ankle specialist... I know he deals with in-grown toenails all the time... i guess I was expecting him to look at it more to see why the pain instead of just taking 1 look and saying great lol

You shouldnt have settled for that, i would definetly bring up the possibility of a bone spur if the pain continues to be so bad, i know it was horrific for my friend, but once it was out it was an immediate relief. Good luck.

What's a bone spur? Is it something you can see, or how do they tell you got it?

Nope, you cannot see it but it is extremely painful, it is a little tiny bone that start growing on your bone, she had it in the place where she had an ingrown toenail and she took the nail out herself, (dont know if that was the reason it formed or not) but she did suffer with it a long time thinking it was just skin, cuz she kept getting dead skin growing over it and she would always pick that dead skin off... she did that until she could no longer take the pain, and with one Xray, they told her it was a bone spur, now she is pain free.

Ouch, it sounds painful. I hope your toe feels better. I also hope you have better results if your pain continues.
