Hi, I'm Rose from Shropshire in the UK :ukflag;
My Dad is a dialysis patient and I've joined this board so that I can find out from real people what the pros and cons of different dialysis is.  Dad is 78 and not computer literate, but I will share any information with him. I'm going to post a question about different types of dialysis, I hope you will be kind enough to share your experiences with me.
Thanks in advance.
Best wishes
Rose

i am a 51 year old male on dialysis for 3 years now. This is my second time. My brother donated a kidney to me about 13 years ago. I found this site on another site. I had to laugh when i saw what it was called. I hope to meet people from all over to talk about dialysis.

Welcome to our community!  There is lots to learn here.  We even have a special section for people who are here because of their loved ones ( for when you want to vent, etc.)  I am always very gratified when people join in order to help someone else.  Keep reading, and keep posting.  Let us know how your dad is doing.
A special welcome to someone under the same flag as I am - I live in the British Virgin Islands and am from Barbados (was born under the Union Jack).

Hi Everyone,
What a lovely welcome, thank you so much, I feel better already  :)

I've posted a question about weighing up the alternative types of dialysis on "Dialysis:Home dialysis", thanks to those of you who have already been there and helped me.  Dad started dialysis in April but hates beignn away from home, we are trying to decide whether it's best to carry on at the center and for him to try to get used to it, to opt for a form of home dialysis (Which? is then the big question) or move nearer the center, which would be a complete change of lifestyle, moving from the deep countryside into a city at the age of 78.  It's a tough one but by reading your previous posts and helpful answers to my questions then we should be able to make an informed decision.

Thanks very much

What's dialysis?

« Reply #16 on: September 09, 2007, 09:17:42 AM »

Hi Rose,

as Kickstart says, there are a few of us from the UK and our treatments differ greatly from the US.

Feel free to ask about anything you want.  Us Brits have to fly the flag (tho Ken if you read this, I am only flying the Union Flag coz there is no Lion Rampant availble here, Scottish til I die, Scottish til I die, I'm Scottish til I die!) Don't worry Rose, Ken likes football.
