Hello!

I'm new here and am not on dialysis but my mom will be soon.  She is in ESRD and current function is 12%.  I am also in the process (along with my husband and sister) of being tested to donate a kidney to her hopefully soon.  She has a PRA of 76 and we just had blood drawn for our flow crossmatch.  We got positive crossmatches and now need to see how much plasmapheresis she will need.  However, I am nervous because I was told if our Tcell and Bcell numbers are over 450, she won't be able to get a transplant from that particular person.  So, I am hoping that at least one of us will be under 450.  That just makes me so nervous and every time I have gotten blood drawn, my BP is up and I normally have low BP...anyway, I have been reading here for a while since deciding to join and just want to say all of you are so supportive of each other and this just seems like such a wonderful place.  I'm sure once my mom goes on dialysis, I will have a million questions and I hope I don't drive anybody nuts in the process!  Thank you  :)

Thank you so much!  I really do appreciate the welcome and the offers of answers.  I have a tendency to ask a LOT of questions...the transplant and donor coordinators loooooove me....I just like to know what to expect and need to help my mom.  She and my father live in a different state and since I am the oldest, I feel like I need to be her advocate and if something isn't gong right, I need to know.  But, we aren't there yet...she will soon be on dialysis, though.  If we can donate to her, it won't be until the beginning of the year because she has to finish up her Hep B vaccine and that takes a few months.  Anyway, thank you very much and I will be asking questions!

Hi Beth

Welcome to the IHD Family!
You have come to the right place for info, support and friends.
Your Mom is fortunate to have you for an advocate.
Hope things work out so she can get a transplant.

I think it is fantastic that you are taking on the advocate role for your Mom, I know from my experience with my Wifes Kidney failure that she needs someone looking out for her best interests, she is pretty overwhelmed with her own physical challenges that learning is difficult without someones help, She never makes decisions concerning her care without my input and the tremendous help we find on this forum in obtaining answers that are really hard to get from the "professionals" we have to deal with almost daily. Just remember there is no such thing a a dumb question, we are all in this together........

Never feel bad about asking questions because lots of times they won't tell you things.  We have asked lots and done a lot of research. I find you have to educate yourself on kidney disease.
