Bajanne2000 asked what life was like on Kangaroo Island... Well its pretty good.  :ausflag; We moved hear from Adelaide, South Australia 3 years ago to get away from the city and boy we did that. Our nearest neighbour is about 6 km away (approx 3.5 miles) and our driveway is 3 km long. We are on a 250 acre property that is 70% native bush and 30% pasture.

The Eleanor River runs through the property,it is not a big river and flows all year round although slows to a crawl during our long dry summer.
We have named the property Eleanor River Homestead and I have built a log cabin that sleeps up to 6 people for tourists and this year we moved into our house that I also built. Check it out at http://www.eleanorriverhomestead.com.au

KI is a BIG small island with an approximate population of 5000 people and the main industries on the island are general farming and tourism. It has won tourism awards and is especially renown for its untouched beauty and native wildlife. Due to the isolation from the mainland there are no rabbits or foxes that have ravaged many native species of wildlife on the mainland.

There is an excellent community spirit here that has long gone in many city areas and I cannot think of a better place to live. Just tonight Kath and I were watching a kangaroo and its joey eating the grass just a couple of yards from our front door :2thumbsup;

Sounds gorgeous.  When i was down under, I was mostly in Queensland (playing Rugby Union on  a club transfer). I enjoyed my time there, but I only got down to Sydney and the ACT, and never over to SA or Victoria.  I will put it on my list of places to go on my post transplant world tour.

I will find my way to Australia one of these days!  My husband has already been there twice and New Zealand, too.  Your place looks great.

Graeme - ask your wife (marine biologist, right?) if she knows my friend Adele Pile.  Adele is in Sydney now, but was in Adelaide for a bit.  I am also friends with Dan Alongi who is at AIMS, and Hugh Kirkman, a seagrass ecologist, who is now retired.

I am a marine ecologist.

Pelagia, Kathy retired from Marine Biology a few years ago... She knows of Hugh Kirkman but not of Adele or Dan.
Unfortunately Kathy's bones gave out on her and couldn't dive anymore and not being keen on all the lab work she retired. She was the first female to dive on the oil rigs in Bass Straight... Between Mainland Australia and Tasmania.
