World's Best Beach..Lanikai..Oahu, Hawaii

« on: August 09, 2007, 07:34:35 AM »

I was sleeping at the time but this rocked enough to wake me up.  The house was making lots of noise but it was over so fast I was left wondering if there had really been an earthquake or if I was just dreaming.  I layed there with my eyes open for a few minutes waiting for more but when nothing happened I turned over and was pleasantly asleep in seconds.

4.5-magnitude quake rattles Southern California
From the Associated Press
3:35 AM PDT, August 9, 2007

- Earthquake Special
A moderate earthquake rattled the Los Angeles area early Thursday, waking residents and knocking some items off shelves and walls.

The magnitude 4.5 temblor struck just before 1 a.m. about 4 miles northwest of Chatsworth, according to a preliminary report from the U.S. Geological Survey.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or significant damage, said spokesman Brian Humphrey, of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The quick jolt was felt by residents across Los Angeles County, and many reported that their houses vibrated, windows rattled and books, pictures and other items fell.

Hundreds of alarms went off in the Chatsworth area, police said.

"It was a real jerk, then a second jerk and then it just stopped," said Chris Harris, 57, of Canoga Park.

Harris, who was working at his computer when the shaking started, said a large picture fell off a wall in his home.

Chatsworth is about 30 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles.

We're used to them here so they get to be kind of routine.  I asked Dave who lives near Copper Hill which is about 4 miles from here if he felt it.  It woke him too...and he just rolled over and went back to sleep as well.

Another day...another earthquake!

At least we know your bridges must be safe. At least before the quake.
