working at home

I'd really like to find some work to do here at home to bring in some income and
keep me busy with purpose while my foot recovers and I was just wondering
how to go about finding work to do at home.  Any of you work at home?
Was a typesetter for years, then did misc. jobs., retail, gave samples in groc.,
newspaper delivery, call center, different things.  If I could just get the door open..............
any suggestionss?  thanks.

I figure I could collate, staple, proofread, fold and stuff envelopes, do misc. jobs.
can think of things but don't know how to get the work.  I've told
people here and there I'd like to do work at home so if anyone hears
of anything they will think of me.  Do you think a newspaper ad in
the local paper would pick up anything?

if you have customer service or sales experience there is a colorado based company called Alpine Access that has phone reps who all are home based.  they are a legitimate, straight up company that has been in business since about 1998. information and application can be obtained from their web site, alpineaccess.com. i know several people who have worked for them, including my youngest daughter,

How about something crafty?  I make and sell quilts and other small hand crafts.  I've got friends and family with gift shops, so I've got built in outlets for selling, but you can always look into consignment gift shops or even craft shows.  I don't make a lot of money, but I really enjoy the hobbies, so it's a good way to spend my time.

I wish I was crafty but am not.
I put together a book of religious poems one time.
I wish I could sell that.  haha  I've given them to friends for gifts, etc.
I used to make a mix that was very good.  Woud give it for gifts, etc.
and a friend of mine always said I should sell it on e-bay, etc.
If I fixed some and gave samples in a groc. I bet it would sell.
Anyway, one time someone asked me to make a big batch of it
for a party and paid me $25.  I don't know how to go about
selling it.  You'd prob. have to have a license and I don't know how you'd ever
figure the calories, protein, etc. on something like that for labeling.
One time I wrote a devotion and it was published.  Maybe should pursue that.
I just wonder if I put an ad in paper saying "let me be your office helper.  Let
me collate, make phone calls, stuff your envelopes, etc.?  something along that
line, if it would draw any attention.  Seems like there would be people with
work overload looking for good help.
I just need to add to my income, not hoping to strike it rich, (tho that would be nice). lol

Ohio Buckeye I'm in the same position.  I feel well enough on my days off dialysis that I want to pick up something part-time.  I'm signed up to take the State Public Notary Exam.  Then I will put an advertisement on www.craigslist.com and maybe get some business being a Public Notary.

My stupid "Jumpy Houses" didn't work out.  I have two bounce houses in the garage just sitting there.  I thought kids would love that for parties.  One problem with that is I can't deliver them myself.  I have to have help.  But, no one knows that because I haven't received one fricken call on them. 

Try to put your notice on craig's list and see if you get a response.  www.craigslist.com

It is so hard to find a company that allows you to work from home.  In my opinion it is so much cheaper for the employee to do so.  I work from home doing human resources, but my company is one of the few that allow it.  Also, they don't hire much from the outside, so it's hard for outsiders to get in.

What about medical transcription?  I have heard many companies pay people to do this from home.  Perhaps you could look into that?  Whatever you do, don't "pay" to subscribe to companies for work fromhome ventures....they are scams.

I'm surprised Rerun.  I would think there would be need for those.
You could always pay a high school kid to help you set up.
Our church has a spring funthing for children and always rents some of those.
Maybe send flyers out to churches, etc.
I have a friend who is a notary public.

and some of them sound too good to be true so I figure they are scams.
I think there are a lot of scams out there.

If you have insurance in place, advertise them in the paper, on bulletin boards, fliers on cars or power poles, for FREE to a birthday party in the area you want to work.

After you book the first free one, tell the callers you have already booked the free one and what you will charge.  Tell them if they have more than 20 kids at the party you'll give them a discount -- worth it for the word of mouth referrals.  Have signs ready to post at the free one with your phone number, and business cards to hand out to the parents in attendance, and to the kids to take home for their own birthday party.

If possible, set the thing up in your own back yard and post fliers and let the neighborhood kids come one afternoon to play for free and give them all fliers and business cards to give to their friends. 

If you're in an area that gets rush hour traffic, and the homeowners association and/or zoning will allow it, blow it up for a couple of hours every morning and every evening in your front yard with your phone number visible from both directions.

Try getting a local college student wanting work on the weekend to do the work for a % of what you charge.  They can also post fliers and give business cards to their friends and families with younger children to increase their income.

Ohio Buckeye -- I was just looking at this months magazines and Family Circle has a whole article on companies that hire people to work at home. It was very informative and had names and contacts for the companies.  Some were catalog order stores. You set the hours. Most didn't have medical benefits.  Let me know if you can't find the article.  Maybe it was Woman's Day, but I think it was Family Circle----you know how it is trying to remember anything!  Hope the info helps.  PS, was visiting my family in Columbus and feasted on Donatos and White Castle!! Yummy!

I haven't had their pizza recently, but had one of their subs a couple times this month.  yum

I may have found something.
A lady who lives near is moving out of state and she wraps yarn around cardboards
for an art company and she does it at home.  They will need to replace her and
she gave me their no. an said to use as a reference and I called and talked to him and he said he will need
someone by the end of the month and took my number and said he'd call me
probably before the end of the month.  He said his trainer is on vacation right now
anyway so he has to wait for her to come back.  So it does look promising.  I'm praying
that it works out.  It sounds ideal.
