In April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted
nationwide in  protest of gas prices.  Gasoline prices
dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.

On May 15th 2007, all internet users are to not go
to a gas station in protest of high gas prices. Gas is
now over $3.00 a gallon in most places.
 
There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on
 the internet network, and the average car takes about
30 to 50 dollars to fill up.
 
If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it
would take $2,292,000,000.00 (that's almost 3 BILLION)
out of the oil companies pockets for just one day, so
please do not go to the gas station on May
15th and lets try to put a dent in the Middle  Eastern
oil industry for at least one day.

I heard about a store owner who is refusing to sell gas until the prices come down, they just closed the pumps.  The profit margin is so small on fuel anyway, they are still operating the store for revenue.

interesting idea. however one thing that should be remembered, gas stations only add a small amount, very small, to what they have to pay for gas from the distributors. a large part of gas price is state and city taxes. it won't really hurt the oil companies or oil producing countrys. the gas station owner has already paid for the product

The Shell station a cross from my dialysis center is $4.02 for regular and $4.17 for premium.   This owner prices at least 20 cents above all the other stations here.  Every time I see someone pull in there, I yell the 76 station 2 blocks down is $3.73 per gallon.

I wish I was kidding about the $3.73.    I was stunned the day I saw it go over $4 here.

I just filled up for $3.19 a gallon here.  Took me $58.00 to fill my tank.   Oh how I wish it still cost less than a buck like it did when I first started driving.

Even when gas prices weren't outrageous, I found it amusing that some people would go next door to the more expensive gas prices than the cheaper one. We had to gas stations directly across the street from each other, one cheap one at least .15 higher... It's funny someone would choose the expensive one over the cheap one for really stupid reasons.

I know some people believe in the "name brands"  or the "higher octane"  but to tell you the truth, when ever i went to Shell or Chevron was because i was out of cash and had a handy dandy credit card   DAMN THEM CREDIT CARDS I SAY!!!

What is the "reason" for supply being down?  When there were hurricanes in the gulf that damaged pipelines and platforms I sort of understood but ever since that the prices have not returned and now they continue to rise.  This is absolutely out of control.  It was only in the year 1999 that I was in S.C. and paying less than a dollar per gallon.  In only eight years the price has tripled and before summer is out it is predicted to be $4 a gallon here in N.C.  I feel like the government is raping it's citizens.  Is this what Iraq is really about?

Here in Alberta we are paying up to $1.03/ litre. Today I lucked out and got it for $0.96 / litre at the Mohawk. They were saying on the news tonight that it could go as high as $1.30 this summer. My truck is dual fuel so I'll be running propane for the summer it's only $0.65.

$1.13/litre here in Alberta today. This is crazy considering it comes out of the ground in my own province.

  The problem with this boycott is that people still need gas, so they just buy it the day before or the day after. The only way to truly affect the supply and demand is by reducing consumption. Riding a bike or carpool for at least a few weeks would make a dent. Gas prices here in southern California have gone up 20 cents a gallon in the last 3 weeks for no particular reason. It's around $3.45 for the cheapest gas around, and with a 32 gallon tank it's a pretty big investment to drive my kids around. I am going to cut back on my driving until the price goes down. I know, my effort is like a drop in the ocean, but maybe more people will do it too.

On th news tonight they showed stations who are not selling gas tomorrow thinking it will help bring down prices. my kids and i will be sticking around the house alot this summer!!!!

In Newfoudland we are paying about $1.25 /liter for gas. Works out I think to about $5 per gallon.  Costs well over $60 to fill our car when it is empty. The truck I don't even want to talk about!!  4x4 super cab Dodge Ram that is always thirsty.

My wife drives a conversion van so it holds a lot of gas.  The gas stations around here have a dollar amount set on them that it wont fill past of $75.  She only gets 3/4 of a tank out of it.  It's really sad when you cant fill you gas tank all the way up because it costs more than $75 to do it.

Better drive those F150's and Hummer H2's off a cliff.  Get something more fuel efficient, cut back, or just don't drive.  It is truely amazing to see new SUV's, monster pickups, and other sorts of inefficient vehicles still leaving the dealer's lots around here.  They may offer incentives to move their dinosaurs but you'll never get enough from them to make up for the increasing cost of gas.

My 8 1/2 year old Saturn isn't looking so stupid these days.  It still gets 35 mpg on the highway which is where most of my driving is anyway.  I want a new car but it will have to do better than that before I buy.

Getting back to the protest day...that won't work at all.  Everyone is still going to get their gas.  If you really need it tomorrow you might be waiting in a long line just because people wanted to make their point today.  A day off at the pump proves nothing.  Driving less and driving smarter cars does.

 Honda Civic Hybrid.nd cried a little, but she traded in her F150 for a 2007 Honda Civic hybrid. Awesome gas mileage.. I'm going to get one myself when I get my license back..
