April 26, 2007 - After two failed attempts at a kidney transplant, a Perrysburg girl and her family are hoping her life will change for the better tomorrow. 17-year-old Riley Pummill had received a kidney from her father five years ago. That kidney failed earlier this year and since then, it has been a roller coaster ride.

Last minute failures prevented her from receiving a new kidney twice. Everything changed for Riley when a person she had never met before volunteered to donate his kidney. Sgt. Jared Carson heard Riley's story from her father, another soldier. The two men were serving together at Ft. Hood in Texas. Jared says his faith inspired him to help Riley and dad calls Jared and his daughter heroes.

Sgt. Jared Carson says, "She is truly something special. A special person and I believe that sometimes the most special people get the hardest burdens to bear in the world."

Riley says, "I just hope a lot of people hear about this. There are a lot of people who need help out there and organ donation can help it saves lives."

The Pummils wanted us to convey Riley has received dialysis for the past several weeks and she will feel better immediately after receiving the transplant. The procedure is scheduled to take place tomorrow morning. The family hopes their story inspires others to consider organ donation.
