 :waving;

Hi all. I have been doing my husband's hemodialysis at home for the past eight months. Just popping in to feel less alone in the process. Nice to meet you all.

Glad you have joined us. I hope you have a good support system, it is nice to have some relief from being a caregiver. I am now on my 3rd run of being a caregiver and if I did not have good support, I dont know what I would have done. So, this is the place for you to get help and support and argue politics if you want to.

Welcome to IHD!

You might be surprised to learn that we have a number of 'Caregivers' here among our Members.

I have great respect for anyone that can handle a needle safely.  And setting up, running a Dialysis machine at home?   WOW!  Take about attention to detail.

As Needle=phobic as I am I am NOT planing on this happening for me.  Wife has lost her vision, but even before when she cold see just fine she never had the confidence to even think about sticking a needle in for my treatments.  Two?  That just wouldn't happen.

Patsy almost fainted when she saw the staples in my shoulder after one of my surgeries.  I laughed at the time.

Your Husband is a very fortunate soul to have you as his partner.

Take Care,

Thank you all for the warm welcome!

I don't have much of a support system in that there is no one who can cover for me or take care of his personal needs at this point, but we are doing pretty well. My parents live next door so they check on him and bring him dinner after I leave for work. One of our children recently started training to do the dialysis and plans to take over one day a week so I can get more than five hours of sleep. (I can't wait! Sleep!!!!) You know how it is...some days are better than others. We just keep putting one foot in front of the other.  :)

My husband has a CVC, so I haven't had to deal with the needles up to this point. He hasn't been a candidate for a fistula, but as his health continues to improve, that may change. I work in the ED (admin, not medical) so the idea doesn't disturb me any greater than the rest of this process. If it is something that has to be done, then that's what we will do.
