Kenneth from Ala. says Hi!

My name is Kenneth and I live in Dothan, Alabama. I'm a 55 year old man who has been on dialysis almost two-and-one-half years. I found out about this site through Instapundit, which is a political blog. Since I mentioned politics, I'll say that I'm conservative, but that doesn't really matter here. I have been working a full time job the whole time I've been on dialysis, but I'm coming to the point where I'm ready to give up work. That's a little scary, but it just takes too much time to keep up with all the doctor's appointments and everything and still put in my forty hours. But I keep changing the time I plan to stop working full time. At first it was going to be the end of the year, then maybe September, then maybe June, and now I'm thinking October. I'd love to hear someone else's thoughts on this.
Because of heart problems, I'm not a transplant candidate. I love the outdoors, and I want to spend some time riding around the South--at least on non-dialysis days. I'm on hemo dialysis, which seemed to fit best with the work schedule. Though I don't see much reason to change after I do quit work. I'm sure I haven't told you all any of the good stuff, but I will eventually. My attitude is good, but I hate all this being sick half the time. Anyway that's all I know for now.

Welcome to our community. This is definitely the place to be. There are many who understand exactly what you are going through and can offer advice, or simply be there for you. I notice that you are my age group, and that you started dialysis not too long ago like me - 19 months. I too am still working and probably will until I am 60.
Our site has become a real family (with all that means!) and I am glad that you have joined us. Looking forward to hearing much more from you.

Welcome to the community. You will find many helpful ideas and comments here. There has been a lot of discussion about work and jobs recently on the board. I htink we are all trying to come to terms with the process of dialysis and trying lead semi-normal lives.

Welcome Kenneth!
I am happy to have you here and hope that you enjoy your time here as much as I have. This is a great place with great people that are willing to support and lend an ear whenever you need it. I hope to hear much more from you in the future as I admire your being able to work and take on the challenges of doctors appointments and dialysis at the same time. Sending you Hugs from Missouri.

Thanks to all of you who have taken time to welcome me here, and also to those of you who have just taken a moment to check out the new interloper.
I haven't changed much in the last two days, so there's not much to say now. Tomorrow is Saturday, which is a dialysis day for me. It's still pretty weather here in Southeast Alabama (not frying-eggs-on-sidewalk-hot yet), so if I feel ok after treatment, I'll go riding in the country for a while. That late Saturday afternoon drive can be so peaceful. When I leave for dialysis during the work week, my coworkers will ask me if I'm going to get wrung out. They're all about 20 years younger than me and are real supportive. OK, written out for now.
