Back on Dialysis

Hey Everyone,
I guess this is a re-introduction post. As of Wednesday my husband, John, is officially back on dialysis. He had a kidney transplant from his mom on Oct 2013. Unfortunately he only really did well with it for 11 months and since then it's been in decline. He was born sick and has had a liver transplant and 2 kidney transplants. The last few months have been extremely difficult. He isn't himself anymore. I feel like he sleeps all time and is constantly grump with myself and the kids. He had para thyroid surgery 2 weeks ago that was unsuccessful
. Then last sat he went to the ER in A-fib. After 5 days in the hospital it was determined that he has fluid around his heart and they started dialysis. He is also having a biopsy on a pancreatic cyst on Monday and is looking at a Whipple surgery and possibly becoming diabetic. I feel so bad for him and there is nothing I can do or say to help him right now. He is severely depressed and hasn't told friends or family (other than our parents) about the dialysis yet.
I'm 35 and John is 38. He used to be a teacher but is now a stay at home dad to our 2 and 5 year old boys. My 13 year old daughter also lives with us 50% of the time. Life is crazy and noe we'll be fitting dialysis back in. We used to do home hemo, but I can't manage now with my current work schedule. He'll be at Davida for 3 hour treatments in the evenings Mon -Wed. I'm hoping to get him on an earlier schedule soon. I just wish I could take a week or 2 off of work to adjust. Bottom line is I hate dialysis, he hates dialysis, but I'm grateful for it. I need him around as long as possible!

So sorry you are having to face this. You guys are so young and have a young family. Look into Nocturnal in center hemo dialysis. That way he gets 8 hours 3 nights a week. He should feel better because he is cleaner. AND you will get some rest while he is being looked after. His days will be free...or more free.

Welcome back Katie.
Sad to hear of why. I have a lot of trouble with my Beliefs. I fail to understand the reasoning behind the aflictions we humans have. I wonder what we are supposed to be learning, how the suffering affects so many others around the patient.
Prays for your Husbands health. I don't have much else.
Take Care,

Thanks everyone! It's nice to have the support
.John mentioned nocturnal dialysis to me. The center that is within 2 miles of our house doesn't offer it, but I think it's worth looking at alternative centers. Tomorrow is his first day officially back at Davita. I hope everything goes smooth for him!

I am so sorry 😐 , you sure have your plate full and with 2 little kids to care for as well .With all he has been through l can see why he would be depressed and snappy. You must be sure to take care of your self first . It can get so easy to put your self last . God bless you .
