PD and Diabetes management

I am a Type 2 diabetic (since 1997) and for the last 6 years have been managing it with low-carb diet and walking.  I haven't yet started PD (my catheter needs reworking) but the idea of putting sugar into my peritoneum and messing with my blood sugars (and messing up the lining of the peritoneum with AGEs) seems just insane to me. Especially since such a high percentage of dialysis patients are also diabetic.

 I am needle phobic so the idea of daily insulin freaks me out and there are so few diabetes meds that are acceptable for CKD that I don't know how people manage.  I heard about a man whose blood sugars went so haywire on PD that he died, and that is not encouraging.

How do all of your with both diseases manage?

I hesitate to tell you this because of your needle phobia but partly because of my concerns with the sugar solution is why we went to home hemo. I've had diabetes since 1999.

I was concern of throwing my sugars off. But I also have had major abdominal surgery in the past so I may have not even been a candidate for PD anyway.
