10 years on and off dialysis

« on: July 03, 2015, 07:22:24 AM »

I am interested to hear about other people's experiences with difficult vascular access for dialysis.
I have been on dialysis approaching 10 years. I am female and have very small veins.
I have had 2 necklines and about 6 groin lines.
5 fistula attempts in left arm, finally successful Sept 2013. Clotted off Jan 2015. Graft put in at Adddenbrookes. Clotted off May 2015.
Back on groin line ( which I hate) and have had a fistula made in my ankle. £ weeks old and gentle pumping away.
How we are going to achieve needling and stopping the bleeding is a big question mark...
and if this fails what happens next?

I haven't been on this site for awhile, so that's why my answer is coming so long after your question.  I've  been on dialysis for 14 years.  I had little luck with fistulas, better with grafts in my arms, as well as various lines.  Then two years ago I ran out of options in my arms.  I happened to be in the hospital at the Mayo Clinic when I first learned of a HeROgraft.  I'll provide a link rather than try to explain it.  Th HeROgraft has worked very well for me.  The only problem I have had is with techs who tend to stick the same sites too much.  Mayo didn't create the graft, but I am the first one to have one installed.  I can't complain.  I'm not sure it's available in your country, but maybe there's a way around that.  Good luck
