Hi All!

So glad to have come across this site.  How wonderful to share...  I am an RN, a facility Administrator who takes care of 125 patients, as well as 25 EXCELLENT staff members.  A different perspective for me.  I am passing out the website to my patients as well as my staff, I hope it will be helpful to my patients, and be another vantage point for the staff taking care of patients.  Nursewratchet

Lost vision due to retinopathy 12/2005, 30 Laser Surg 2006
ESRD diagnosed 12/2006
03/2007 Fantastic Eye Surgeon in ND got my sight back and implanted lenses in both eyes, great distance & low reading.
Gortex 4/07.  Started dialysis in ND 5/4/2007
Gortex clotted off Thanksgiving Week of 2007, was unclotted and promptly clotted off 1/2 hour later so Permacath Rt chest.
3/2008 move to NC to be close to children.
2 Step fistula, 05/08-elevated 06/08, using mid August.
Aug 5, 08, trained NxStage and Home on 9/3/2008.
Fistulagram 09/2008. In hospital 10/30/08, Bowel Obstruction.
Back to RAI-Latrobe In Center. No home hemo at this time.
GOD IS GOOD

I had never heard of this site.  I know my patients haven't either.  Hats off to every one here, I have a patient advocate in my clinic, but this is much better, broader, and a wealth of info!   Thanks!!!  Vicki

Nursewratchet!  Love the name.  Wasn't that off "One Flew Over A KooKoo's Nest"?  That dates me.  I'm glad you found us.  I've tried to get our Social Worker to look at this site to pass on but he won't.  I'm glad you have a broad mind.

I had the name way before I was a nurse.  It is from the movie, my son ( then 4), gave it to me.  

My Social Worker is, I think, the BEST in Dialysis, she can find money for anything.  I will definately be showing her this site...

Uninterrupted in-center (self-care) hemodialysis since 1982 -- 34 YEARS on March 3, 2016 !!

No transplant.  Not yet, anyway.  Only decided to be listed on 11/9/06. Inactive at the moment.  ;)
I make films.

Just the facts: 70.0 kgs. (about 154 lbs.)
Treatment: Tue-Thur-Sat   5.5 hours, 2x/wk, 6 hours, 1x/wk
Dialysate flow (Qd)=600;  Blood pump speed(Qb)=315
Fresenius Optiflux-180 filter--without reuse
Fresenius 2008T dialysis machine
My KDOQI Nutrition (+/ -):  2,450 Calories, 84 grams Protein/day.

Great to have you on board and even better (for us, and hopefully for your staff & patients) that you are spreading the word.. it's great to have support from someone on "the other side"(no offence meant by that phrase!) rather than people telling us to not get on the internet and stuff like that :)

Second trx doing great so far...all lab values in normal ranges

Welcome, NurseWratchet !!  When my husband first started in-center hemo (1995), there was a young, pretty floor nurse he nicknamed (affectionately) "Nurse Wratchet" (from "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest").  She was sooooo good to Marvin and to me (let me go back with him for the first month or so and sit the entire time).  She also gave Marvin some great advice way back then -- "Watch everything.  Know everything that is being done to you while you're on the machine.  Ask questions.  Know what should be done.  Be your best advocate."  She always had time for him (and her other patients, too), and she always smiled!

A couple of years later, she was promoted to FA; then, a few years after that, she was assigned to be FA over four different clinics.  After Marvin's three years with a transplant and when he had to go back on hemo, our Nurse Wratchet helped us both emotionally handle the return to dialysis.  She saved our sanity.  A few years ago, she switched to another company and is now a regional supervisor (all the clinics in four counties).  But, guess what?  Even after 14 years and even after switching to another company, she still stays in touch with Marvin and me.  She comes by to see us once a month or so (she lives about 10 miles from us).  She was interested in home hemo (her company doesn't offer it yet in our area), and she likes to come by when Marvin's running.  If I'm having problems/questions/concerns about Marvin's access or his labs or his overall health, I call her first (our home hemo nurse can't be "bothered" with mundane questions).  She is an excellent nurse and a beautiful woman (inside and out).  You sound like "our" Nurse Wratchet!

How wonderful you both sound!  My name is certainly from the movie... I have been in Dialysis many years, and I am still in contact with a few fave patients. ( Hi to Jason)!!! My favorite patient was 21 when he started dialysis, so was my son so I related to him and his Mom.  I was new, he was new, and his mother and I cried together that day.  Will never forget it.  Still talk to him, and his Mom. He is doing great as well, he transplanted 3 years ago... Thanks for letting me remember that.  :clap;
