Hi, I'm Mathea and I live in Oklahoma City.  I am a Registered Dietitian, and I am helping my mom deal with her stage 3 kidney disease.  There is a lot to learn and manage as we try to keep her diabetes and heart conditions under control.  Mom doesn't live with us, but I do help her with shopping, meal planning, and other things related to kidney disease like dr appointments.  I have not looked around a lot, but I can already see that I will love reading all the information and help here.

Welcome, I'm glad you trying to education yourself to help her.

If you can have her talk to some people on dialysis (to scare her into better health).  If she can do anything to delay or never go on dialysis she will save herself a ton of stress, so the more she learns now the better.

Welcome, MatheaFord! Your mother is lucky to have your help! My husband has Type I Diabetes and Stage 5 ESRD (end stage renal disease). I've had to relearn what my husband should/shouldn't eat since he started hemo dialysis. The diet for diabetes is a bit different from those with ESRD. The Nutritionist at his Fresenius clinic gave me a packet of info that included lists of foods and so I started using that to help with my grocery list. heh heh...I'm still driving around with one of the lists from the packet in my car in case I forget and need to do some spontaneous shopping. Anyways, there is a LOT of info on this site, for instance, dive in to the Diets and Recipes thread, you'll love it!

Husband had ESRD with Type I Diabetes -Insulin Dependent.
I was his care-partner for home hemodialysis using Nxstage December 2013-July 2016.
He went back to doing in-center July 2016.
After more than 150 days of being hospitalized with complications from Diabetes, my beloved husband's heart stopped and he passed away 06-08-21. He was only 63.
