The tires of the sedan squealed as Jim steered down the driveway, headed for the gate. "Keep down!" he shouted as a gunshots rang out. He pushed forward full speed, hitting the gate and mowing it down. In the mirror he saw the men jump in the van but he didn't slow down. The car fishtailed as he rounded the corner. He didn't say a word until he entered the freeway ramp. Jim put his hand on Sam as she pulled herself up, "Are you alright??"

Sam woke up again............."oh darn I need to stay awake" Sam thought. " Every time I drift off to sleep I have nightmares. I wonder if the nightmares are a side affect of the Transplant anti-rejection drugs....." Sam decided to call transplant coordinator first thing in the morning "I seriously need to find out if the drugs are causing my nightmares." she said to herself, " I'm hungry, I better go find ............."

Jim checked the mirror to see if they were being followed. It looked clear.
Darrell leaned forward and said, "Sam, my God, we thought we'd never find you.."

Sam turned and glared at Darrell. Before she could stop and think, she had slapped him as hard as she could manage in the confined space.
"Just what is going on here?!" Sam demanded. "You better not have gotten my Mom involved in anything shady."
"And as for you...", Sam turned to Jim. "I think you have some more explaining to do".
"For once in my life, I would like to have just a WEEK that is just normal with no drama. Is this too much to ask?"
"Sam, honey..."Jim began.
"Don't you dare interrupt me when I am ranting! Somebody had better start talking and I mean NOW!"
Darrell shook his head sadly and said, "Well, since this all actually stared with me, I'd better start at the beginning.
He proceeded to tell a tale that Sam wouldn't have believed if she herself had not lived part of it.
I had to add to this. It can't just stay where it left off!

"Years ago, before you were born, your dad won an old map and a deed in a poker game. It was supposedly an abandoned goldmine that had never been fully explored," said Darrell. "There were stories that they discovered some of the largest gold nuggets ever found in Alaska. But mysteriously, after a few unusual tunnel collapses and some financial woes, the owner Tom O'Toole, gambled all he had and lost the mine.

"Mister O'Toole lost the mine to a gambler named James Beam. They were in a saloon in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, playing 7 card stud. Tom was dealt a diamond flush, and pushed all of his money in to the pot. All of the other players folded, except Mister Beam. Mister Beam pushed all of his money in the pot, and said to Tom, "Looks like you're a little light. Got anything else to wager?"
Tom said, "All I have is the deed to my gold mine."
"That'll just have to do, now won't it?" Jim replied.
After calling Jim's raise with the deed, Tom laid his King-high flush on the table.
Jim said, "That's a good hand. All I have is 2 pair." Laying his cards on the table slowly, Jim said in a raspy voice, "A pair of Aces, and a pair of...Aces."
Tom was crushed, but knew that the mine was basically worthless, so it wasn't the end of the world. Jim collected his winnings, and left the table, walking out the swinging doors of the saloon.
Just as Jim disappeared out of sight, John Jameson, one of the card players who had folded on the last hand came back to the table, where Tom was still sitting and asked what happened. When Tom related the story of the 2 pair that beat his flush, John was shocked and said, "That can't be, I had the Ace of Clubs in my hand! LOOK!"
John flipped his folded hand, revealing the Ace of Clubs. Tom screamed, "ARRRGGGGHHH! I'll kill that cheatin' bastard, if it's the last thing I do!"
Tom spent the next several years looking for Jim. Finally, in Los Angeles for a poker tournament, Tom noticed a man that looked familiar. It was Jim Beam! He was walking from a car in the parking lot, in to the hotel where the tournament was to take place. Tom decided this was his chance to do what he swore to do in that saloon in Wyoming.
Jim Beam = incidental character no longer!
