SPEAKER: Dr. Scott Brimble, MD, FRCPC

Everyone is welcome to attend!

Nephrologists are working to understand how to prevent the progression of kidney disease in patients with polycystic kidney disease. Dr. Scott Brimble will discuss potential new therapies for polycystic kidney disease (PKD) and polycystic liver disease. For example, research has shown that a drug (tolvaptan) can dramatically slow the development and progression of PKD in animal models, and another drug (octreotide) can delay the development of both PKD and polycystic liver disease and may be a potential treatment option for people with liver involvement.

Dr. Brimble received an MSc. from Brock University and his MD at the University of Toronto. Residency training was completed at McMaster University. He is currently an Associate Professor of Medicine at McMaster University and a staff nephrologist at St. Joseph’s. He is also the Divisional Director of Nephrology in the Department of Medicine at McMaster University. His clinical interests focus on the management of patients with advanced chronic kidney disease, hypertension and peritoneal dialysis. He is also the Provincial Lead for Early Detection and Prevention of Progression at the Ontario Renal Network. He currently holds three peer-reviewed grants and is involved in several clinical research projects.
