Hi,
My name is Anthony.  I am posting on behalf of my Father, Frank.  My dad will be 83 years young and does not have the computer skills to navigate this site so I am here on his behalf.  We live in the Chicago burbs.  He started HD in October, 2013 and this was due to a long battle with trying to avoid HD.  The battle started when Frank survived 4th stage renal cell carcinoma that spread to his lungs.  They removed his right kidney but the cancer already spread to his lungs.  If you don't believe in miracles, you should because I saw one happen.  After three weeks of chemo they had to stop treatment because it was causing issues with his heart rhythm.  He was being treated at Univ of Illinois.  The next 3 months we all watched in amazement as the lung tumors reduced in size, without additional chemo until they were gone. :2thumbsup; (I am sure at this point, I sound like a whack job) His left kidney was compromised at the time of surgery but nobody thought he world out live its function.  We were all wrong, mainly his doctors.  Frank is clearly an exceptional patient and we are posting here today because we have a bunch of questions about this new chapter.
Regards,
Frank and Anthony

Be Well

"Wabi-sabi nurtures the authentic by acknowledging three simple realities: nothing lasts, nothing is finished, and nothing is perfect."

Don't ever give up hope, expect a miracle, pray as if you were going to die the next moment in time, but live life as if you were going to live forever."

A wise man once said, "Yesterday's the past, tomorrow's the future, but today is a gift. That's why it's called the present."

Hi Frank, and Anthony,

The human body is an amazing machine, granted it does have some problems, but most of the time the body does an outstanding job of self repair IF we give it the fuel it needs, and just enough activity to keep it limber.

Processed foods have too many additives and should be avoided, at least to some extent.  Fresh and frozen fruit and vegetables, of all colors have all the essential vitamins and minerals the body needs.

Frank, you must have a great attitude as the mind is one of the strongest tools of the body and plays a huge role in your recovery from cancer. I'm sure the Dr's are very interested in your successful recovery.

Welcome to IHD, there are a lot of great people contributing here.  I know that I have learned a lot, and I still don't really know anything yet.

Take Care,

Charlie B

I am a caregiver to my wonderful husband,  He is 4p and started PD October 2013. We have several living donors waiting to be tested for a transplant. Dialysis is a bridge to get us where we need to go.
He had a transplant in November 2019.
