For those who like rock music and are over 60 or so you may remember today as the 55th anniversary of the The Day The Music Died. February 3 , 1959 . It was this date when Buddy Holly and Richie Valence and The Big Bopper ,JP Richardson died in a plane crash in Iowa.  They had just playedat the surf ballroom in Clear Lake iowa and were headed to Minnessota.  What a loss to the music world. They were just coming into their height Buddy Holly at 22 could have been bigger than Elvis soon.   That inspired Don McLeans famous song American Pie ( not the dumb movies with the name).
I once visited the surf ballroom in Iowa to see the shrine to Buddy Holly. I always remember this date as it remeinds me how fate can change the world in a second.

For those who dont know, the band Buddy Holly formed was the Crickets.  After he died 4 young men in England formed a band and picked a name to honor Buddy Holly and his work that helped change music . They named their group ,  ------- THE BEATLES.
