Hey all ...

My name is Waide Goggin and I live in southeastern Missouri in a small town called Ironton. I am 42 years old and have been married for 12 years and am the father of 3 wonderful kids.
My kidney problems started back in 1977 when I went to the doctor for what at the time seemed like anemia but come to find out was a kidney problem, I was only born with one and it wasn't fully developed. That was in November of 1977 and by April of 1978 I was in training to do home dialysis at Children's Hospital in St. Louis. After the 6 weeks of training that my parents and I did to get the machine home, we finally made it. Well, in July of 1978 I received my first of 3 transplants and it lasted 10 years and 11 months with the last few years living with a creatinine of around 6. Yes I had my share of rejections and they took care of them in the hospital but as time wore on, the kidney kept getting weaker and weaker. Then I went back on dialysis in June of 1989 until ...
I got my second transplant on January 27, 1991 or thereabouts ... I forget exactly when that one was! I did fine with that transplant as well ... 9 years to be exact. I had the rejections again and with better medicine this time they weren't as frequent. With my first transplant they gave me Imuran as one of my rejection meds and I was on it for the whole 11 years of my first transplant ... well now I have a condition where my body doesn't have enough stuff to fight off infections so I have to go get Gamma Guard infusions every 6 to 8 weeks to boost my immune system ... they have told me that I am 1 of only 5 people in the world with this disease. Enough about that though ... my second transplant lasted until I got my third transplant on March 14, 2000 from my best friend. He donated me one of his kidneys where the first two had been cadaver kidneys.
My third transplant lasted only a 2 years because of some typing and mismatch errors on the doctors part I think. I think they just wanted to get me a kidney and my friend seemed like the scapegoat they needed. It finally quit on me on Christmas Day 2004 after two years of hospital visits and doctor calls, and I have been on dialysis ever since.
That is my story ... ask questions and I will answer them all! I am looking at going to do Nxstage dialysis soon! I am going to talk to the doctors about it when I see them next. I already have a friend who is training for the Nxstage dialysis and he loves it. I want to have the freedom I had when I did have a transplant and Nxstage can give that to me.
Thanks for listening .. I can't wait to use this site

Welcome to our community. You must excuse me, but whenever I see an intro like that, I have to say it - it is just the kind that Epoman loved. Thanks for sharing like that with us. We have become quite a family here at IHD, and we like to get to know each other. This is just the place to give and receive information, a place to vent and rant when you need to, a place to socialize even. Epoman developed another site called
www.ilovenxstage.com
- you can have a look there as well.
Please keep posting and let us know how you are doing.
Looking forward to hearing more from you.
