I almost hit a bobcat on the way home tonight!  Biggest one I've seen up here - or maybe it just looked that way because of the puffy winter-white coat of hair!  It ran right at my car, with traffic on the road both coming at me and following me, and some huge ditches on either side.  I was driving my mother-in-law's car, which has iffy brakes right now.  If the cat hadn't done a quick 180 right before I got to it, it would have been a messy night!

I've got a stress echocardiogram on Monday.  They are going to give me a shot of doubutamine to make my heart race.  Guess I should have been hooked up tonight - I could have saved myself the shot!

Don't feel bad I almost hit a truck tonight but took the ditch instead. Nobody hurt just a $35 tow fee.

Wow, jbeany, that's pretty freaky. Most everyone in Michigan has had their share of hits and near-misses with deer, but a bobcat! Do you see many in your area? I live in the Lansing area, and people have reported sightings of a cougar, but I didn't know there were bobcats upnorth! The coyote problem has been growing in this area - urban sprawl is the cause, I'm sure.

Lots of bobcats up here - lots of swampy, marshy wilderness areas.  We've also got wolves now, coming across the ice bridge from the UP during the coldest winter months.  I haven't seen any myself, but I have friends who have.  I haven't seen any of the cougars myself either, although my husband was chased by one when he was out in the woods as a kid.  Did you know the DNR has FINALLY admitted that we have cougars after years of saying people were just seeing bobcats?  A DNR staff member saw one and managed to take a pic a year or so ago, so the DNR finally had to admit we weren't just making things up!  Don't know how they think we're all dumb enough to confuse a 35 pound furball for a 150 pound mountain lion, but they have spent years insisting on it.

Mountain lions are something else.  My Mom had a cabin in Idyllwild , California and a Mountain lion took up residence under the porch of her next door neighbor's house. Mom said it was quite a sight to look over and see a mountain lion staring back at you!  I think the forest service came out and either ran it off or relocated the poor thing.
