Hi, has anyone had frequent muscle strains or tears with kidney failure? My ankle is swollen and so painful for days, it becomes unbearable. I went to the dr and they checked my uric acid levels and they are fine. My bone isn't broken. This isn't the first time this has happened.  :waiting;

Is it fluid? Or is it just 1 ankle ? Where exactly is the pain?

It's only my right ankle and my left ankle has no fluid. The right ankle is very swollen.

 my muscles often ache and tendonitis is also pretty common.

Where is the pain worst? Is it in the center of the joint, on the outside(lateral or little toe side) or on the inside(medial or big toe side). ? Does it hurt to move it up down or more side to side? What about the back where the achilles is, does that hurt? There are no muscles around the ankle joint, only tendons, ligaments, nerves/blood vessels, and the joints themselves. So if you can poinpoint the pain perhaps I can tell you more .
Also rule out psoriatic arthritis(do you have any psoriasis skin lesions?) and rheumatoid arthritis as they can both swell an ankle.

Long term D patients often have muscle strains/tears caused by amyloid buildup in muscle/bone/tissue because the molecule is too big to be removed. This can also cause carpal tunnel syndrome in the hands. Kidney transplant is currently the only way for stopping the deposition of amyloid in your body. Other studies have found that certain antitoxins such as green tea (epigallocatechin gallate-catechins) can unravel amyloid strings and remove them from the D process.

I don't believe that after a few years of D that amyloid would be the reason for your muscle pulls. It is possible that atrophy may have occurred in that muscle group from lack of exercise or nutritional deficiency or some other nerve related problem.
