I am from Greater Cincinnati, Ohio and I live on the Far East side of the metro area.  As for me, my kidneys started the long climb down in 2001 when a primary care physician suggested that I contact a Nephrologist, was not even sure what kind of a physician he was and most of my family is in Nursing.  Then, in Late November in 2006, I had Acute Pneumonia and that is what finally caused my kidneys to fail, acute pneumonia only has a 30 percent survival rate.  I was in the hospital with that illness for 19 days, bill was $125,000 at Mercy Anderson. If you are curious, you do not want that pneumonia, at one point, my chances of survival were less than 50 percent.  Yes, it was hell on earth and I was only 38 years old at the time.  Now, I am on Nocturnal Dialysis, 5-6 days per week, 6 hours per treatment.  When I first went on In-Center dialysis, I thought I had been hit with a baseball bat and I had played many sports over the years and was used to running 6 miles per day, when I was trying to get into the Marine Corps.

Don't live anywhere near there now (or for a long time), but I grew up in the suburbs of Cincinnati (and have several family members in nursing).

Sounds like a nasty pneumonia. Glad the frequent nocturnal treatment works well for you. Seems like that could be a good option if it is available.

Hi!  I live in Cincinnati, but on the Westside.  I do home hemo with NxStage, but would like to do nocturnal.  My center doesn't support home nocturnal, and they don't offer in-center nocturnal.  I am hoping to receive a transplant around Christmas this year.  My youngest brother is a match and is going through the medical screening now.  Best of luck to you!
