Also could be that your peritoneum is getting used to being full of fluid. I'm still occasionally uncomfortable when I fill, don't know why, it just happens. It usually stops when I'm done filling. Give it some time, your system will get used to it.

I got too full, and it hurt like hell for a little last night.  My belt was too tight, and it went away when I loosened it.

My PD nurse says that if you lose weight sometimes your tube sticks out like a hernia.  The pressure can cause pain.

I too had some filling pain. It would go away after I finished.  Then (I'm guessing) my body got use to the fill and amount and no more fill pain.  Grumpy

I am on a Baxter cycler at night and dry during the day. I was having filling pain when I started filling on the first cycle. I did not have pain when filling on subsequent cycles. The nurse suggested I leave about 400 ml in during the day by setting the last fill to 400 ml. That did stop the filling pain.

I only get about 100 ml when doing the Initial Drain before the first fill. That means that about 300 ml is being absorbed during the day.

My last fill on the Liberty is 500 ml and most times I a get less than 50 ml on my first drain.   But 500 ml is the amount of a 16.9 oz soda bottle.  Kind of gives you a mental picture of how much you are absorbing.  Go figger, eh?

It could be a pH thing like the nurse said.  It does take time for your body to adjust.  It took me about a month not to feel like I was bursting with all the fluid all in.  Also, are your bags body temp when you fill?  I know if the solution is only room temp (forgot to put them on the warmer) it hurts when I fill.  That type of pain usually goes away within a few minutes as the temp equilibrates.  Every once in a blue moon, though, I'll get weird pain when I fill for no apparent reason, but it usually goes away quickly, too.  I'm sure this is frustrating advice, but I would let your body adjust and see if it improves (sorry, I hate it when doctors tell me that!).

Where is the pain?
Seems like if there's anything in the bowels it can cause a cramping feeling on fills.
Hope it improves!

When I did CAPD, I had some pain when filling a few times. It was from:

1. Having the bag elevated too high above me. I am guessing since it is done from gravity, there is more force from the fluid going inside of your peritoneum.
2. Temperature of the fluid. Since I used a heating pad to warm up the solution, I have had solution too cold or too hot depending on when I took it off the heating pad.
3. When starting CAPD, my body had to get used to having fluid inside of me.

For CAPD/CCPD, if i have really bad gas or my bowels are really full I get some pain when filling.

I do not get pain any more when filling or draining (four years on PD), but I do get gas. I suppose it is inevitable with all the filling and draining that gas forms in the intestines due to change in pressure. I am exceedingly regular, so that is not the problem. I think it's just the nature of the PD beast.

oh man, do I have gas!! :sir ken;... seriously though, it is comforting to see I'm not the only one.  It is worse when I have the 2L of fluid in my abdomen.
