My name is Marianne.  I am from Ashtabula, Ohio (east of Cleveland).  I am a registered nurse.  My father nearly died last year after developing severe uremia and began dialyzing emergently.  I am becoming very well-versed in dialysis, as it is not something I use daily in my practice.  While I do hate dialysis, I also love it for saving my father's life.  It is a life sentence, though, and I feel sad for all who must give their time to this less-than-pleasant experience.  I hope I can learn from you and you from me!  Again, thanks for allowing me to join, and to the administrators, thanks for such a great community!

Welcome, Marianne!       :welcomesign;

We all have a love/hate relationship with dialysis.  And this is an excellent place for learning and support.  Again, welcome.

 :waving; Hi, Marianne, welcome to IHD! I'm glad dialysis was available to save your Dad, but as you said it is a life sentence, I guess it's the ultimate good/bad, love/hate situation for all of us with CKD.  The members of IHD are a wonderful group. they've kept me sane(well, relatively sane) from diagnosis to stage 4,   :stressed; (also amused   :rofl;, entertained   :clap; and informed   :waiting;)!

Welcome, Marianne!
I recently had the privilege of teaching an RN friend of mine the basics of Home Hemo.
Yes, we all hate dialysis but we also are glad that we are able to come here and interact with people that understand what we are feeling!
Hope your father continues to do well.

Hi Marianne, and welcome to IHD.  I was introduced to dialysis just like your father was.  Thru the ER!!!  That makes it much worse I think.  Others have months or years to process the whole dialysis thing.  It takes time.  I hope your father just takes one day at a time.

You are a good daughter.

Hi!  Welcome!  I'm over here on the west side of Cleveland.  We drive through your neck of the woods to visit friends in Erie, PA.
