I think I forgot to introduce myself! I have been on this site over a year, although very infrequently. I was reading a lot of posts last night and kept seeing 'be sure to introduce yourself' and I thought, "hmm... did I introduce myself?". Apparently I didnt!

So heres my introduction  ;D

I'm a 34 year old married mother of three boys. We live in Washington state. When I was 18 yrs old I had a kidney biopsy and was diagnosed with IGA Nephropathy. October/November of 2011 I had some bloodwork done and found out that my kidneys had failed. I hadn't had health insurance for over 2 yrs so throughout the course of those 2 yrs my kidneys failed and I didn't realize it. I started Peritoneal D in March of 2012, but in May of 2012 there was a leak in my diaphragm that ended me up in the hospital for about 5 days. I ended up having an emergency IJ Catheter placed and over the next 6 months I did PD and in center hemo, but the PD fluid kept leaking so in August or September they removed the PD catheter. September they started using my fistula (upper left arm) and removed the IJ catheter.
In December of 2012 I ended up in the hospital with a kidney infection (UTI that turned bad). I've had a rough time on Dialysis even though I still produce a LOT of urine, dialysis takes a lot out of me and I am sick a lot with little energy.
My current creatnine is 5.20 and I dialyize two times a week.  :bandance;

I am NOT on the transplant list because I'm too heavy and the transplant surgeon says I have to lose 100 lbs. Honestly I'm not sure that will ever happen. I've been heavy my whole life and hated every minute of it. The weight is certainly not suddenly dropping off just because I have a life threatening illness.

I try to have a positive attitude about it all, but it is a blessing to have somewhere to come where people actually understand what others are going through.

Thanks boswife.
I truly am blessed to only do D twice a week! It makes it more manageable for me, but its still hard.

 :welcomesign;  Hi Wildrose!

Just thought I'd share that I too was considered too heavy for transplant at one time.  I needed to lose about 50 pounds just to get into the range where they would even look at my application.  I tried all the traditional diet methods, would lose a few pounds here and there, but I really felt like I was just spinning my wheels getting nowhere.

Long story short, I ended up pursuing gastric bypass surgery.  While I know this isn't the solution for everyone, it was definitely the best thing I ever did for myself.  I had my surgery June 28, 2012 and was able to begin transplant evaluation by that fall.  I was approved for the list by December, and had my transplant (living donor, my sweet husband) May 9.  There is about 100 pounds less of me than one year ago, and the change in my energy level pre transplant was amazing.

I know all our situations are different, and what worked for me might not work for others.  I just wanted to throw it out there.  There is a definite lack of info available regarding WLS and dialysis/transplant, so if I can answer any questions I am more than happy to.

:welcomesign;  Wildrose! Glad we finally got to hear your story!
You certainly have had a rough start on D! I have never done anything but HD (my choice).
Best of luck to you, keep working at it, hopefully you will make the list!

Hi Wildrose,
You actually did an intro in 2011, but it's always great to get an update!

Unfortunatly the 'show posts' tab doesn't work for me (I did try searching the forum post first to see if I'd made an intro post before but I didn't find one). I can't click on show posts for other members as well as when  I click on it the box with the options opens up to the far right of my mouse and I can't click on any of the opteions.

Oh ok, I have had the same problem myself. Sometimes the menus don't work with certain browsers.  First, go to PROFILE and look at the top where it says "Profile Info." If you look next to it, you will see 2 little arrow looking things like this >> or if not then on the top right like this << and if you click one, it will change the way your cursor works to select menu items.
I hope this makes sense. if not, please let me know and I will try a screen shot to show you.
