Flu outbreak now an epidemic -- Dr. Sanjay Gupta reports on the number of flu cases this season and what people need to do to avoid getting sick. A flu shot CANNOT give you the flu and it could be weeks before you feel sick after you're exposed to the flu. And I've got some good friends that are card carrying members of the anti-vaccine crowd. Not sure how to handle them. I've had my vaccination, but I'm not sure I want to be around them if they refuse to be vaccinated, not only for flu but for anything.

We all got our flu shots in this house, my husband, daughter Laura who lives here, me and my 10 yr old grandson who we are gaurdians for. My husband is on dialysis, and my daughter Laura (Alex's Mom) has asthma and has been getting flu shots since she was a little girl when her asthma got bad. Alex wasn't happy about getting a flu shot, but it protected him at school when flu started going full force here in Mississisippi in Oct. Loads of kids and teachers were out sick. I just can't take chances with Jon and Laura's heath. Laura is often in the hospital because of asthma, and Jon with diabetes and end stage renal failure, I could lose them both. Laura's sister and husband live here in town and they refuse to get flu shots, but they get the flu every yr and miss work recovering. They complain about that, but my son-in-law is totally against getting flu shots. You just can not convince people that it is a good idea.

Apparently whooping cough and norovirus are sweeping the country as well, so now there are THREE things to avoid.

Reading about it, I think I'd rather have flu than norovirus. See, there ARE advantages to never leaving the house!  :puke;

Jim & I have both had our flu shots.
I had a small bout with it (didn't feel small at the time!) but so far,, Jim has avoided it.
