My son Roddy McSleepy at 6 months! sry pic sidewz

« on: January 30, 2013, 01:15:01 PM »

 :bandance;

I wrote this once already, but got knocked offline.

I received a living donor transplant from my husband two weeks ago today.  so far mostly good.  Monday i.woke up.with a temp. of 100.8, and is to have my brother drive me to the ER with a call at 6:52 am.  i had had trohble sleeping for a few days, since I wasn't taking pain meds anymore, I guess.  insomnia ran me down maybe?  I was being very careful and clean.  So, I have been in the hospital since Monday, the phlebotomist (?) Though i'd never left, asking " why did you.change rooms?"  Ha.

Cr was 0.8, now 1.2 cause of meds and infection.  I have named te kidney "Howard" after Howard the Duck.  My husband has a colleague with some.bad habits and a checkered past, and this guy once rescued an injured duckling and nursed it to health and maturity.  He hopes that sort of makes up for some foibles and tips the scales with God.  My husband.has been calling this transplant his duck, so I named the kidney "Howard," after my husband's favorite duck-themed movie.  Could not change my avatar (again) so I'm posting a recent pic here.
 The pic is from today.  i washed my hair with hospital shampoo plus bath wash, but had no gel or anything.  I morbidly donated my hair before i had surgery, in case i died.  i had 13 inches cut off!  My new cut does well with no work. Color me pleased.  i had some real "bad lighting n the porch" issues though.  Will post a pic of my hospital board later.  My husband were highlarous things on it, such as under "tests" he wrote "fart analysis."  that's everyone's favorite joke of the board.. Ps--just edited this!  What an illegible mess!   I am so sorry, all I had was my phone, and it's autocorrect is terrible!  I also couldn't scroll up and down to edit. Mi kept getting Interrupted by nurses, etc., too, and would get knocked off the hospital WiFi.  My hospital board had my mom's number on it, so I would have to edit before posting,  which frankly may never happen.

I did understand that your husband gave you a kidney.  YIPPEEE  for him.  I'm glad you went back in to get the infection under control.

I'm trying to figure out if it's really good meds or just a combination of swipe and auto-correct!

Congrats, Momo!  This is fab news, even if you're having this little bump in the road right now.

If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck - it's a kidney!

I love "I got a transplant" posts! :yahoo;  I'm sorry to hear you have an infection, but it sounds like everything is under control and improving.  I hope your husband knows what a hero he is  :angel;

Dear MoMo,

I am very sorry that you have a post-op infection.  However, that was the funniest post I've read in a long time.  I apologize for giggling. :P

Congratulations on your new kidney.  I do hope that a fart analysis won't be part of any post-tx protocol.

 Oh, gosh, I have fixed up the post a bit.   :shy;

Currently laying in bed with my touchpad.  Husband sleeps on the couch.  We are together, though, cause my mom and friend dragged the mattress downstairs before we got home after surgery.  We have a quad level, and the upstairs bathroom is gutted, so we have the mattress down here for easier access to the only bathroom.  We had friends over last weekend, and it was like a sleepover!

My brother was re-doing my bathroom, but now might have mono :-(. He started feeling sick the day after he drove me to the hospital, but since we didn't make out or share utensils, I am hopefully safe (plus wouldn't acyclovir help?).

Hubs and I had some very ginger, careful, snuggles yesterday.  He is afraid I'll accidentally hit him in our sleep, we only have a full sized mattress, tight quarters!

I am very pleased with myself for cooking and freezing so much, will make it a regular thing!  I love  having a deep freeze, and food already ready already.  Also friends bring us yummies, too!. We are very blessed!  My husband is eating well and had a good check-up.  He goes back to work on modified duties tomorrow.  We missed a whole week together  :(. For donors, they don't check Cr right away so people don't freak.  He was on Atkins before.  Now he just tries to eat sensibly, and has not gained weight yet!. He's taking good care of himself, which I was worried about.  I had to clean his wound with peroxide.  It is over his belly button (with two small laparoscopy incisions on his side) and gross stuff collects in belly button.  He picked me up Friday and told me it stunk, so I asked the nurse to look, and she said to pour a little hydrogen peroxide, which helped.
Regardless thing is having him clean things, etc., that are too geeky for me.  I don't like to ask him for help, cause he just have me a freaking kidney!
 He is growing a beard.  I haven't kissed a man with facial hair since college!

I still have another five weeks or so of leave.  I have a clinic, then a blood draw, every week.

The drugs are not so bad.  Prednisone made me a little kooky at 100mg, so they gave me an Ativan script.

I am on half dose of cellcept while infection is treated.

Oh!  I am on a NODAT study.  "New Onset Diabetes After Transplant". They gave me insulin as soon as I had a high sugar, and I take maintenance doses every morning based on my dinner glucose the night before.  they are trying to prevent diabetes in transplant patients.  I was excited to be in the treatment group, because I already have pancreas problems.  Hopefully we can learn to prevent diabetes!  Only 3 other people in the study now.  My transplant nephrologist calls me every morning, which is a nice bonus (he's the head of the study).. I participated in 2 other studies, too.  I love research!

I still can't drink cause of pancreas, but like this anyway  :beer1;
