Gotta say, I think today is the best day I have had since I started dialysis!      :bandance; The extraneal is working!  Yesterday I walked a mile, and then did a bit of arm exercises with the hand weights.  When I stepped on the scale this morning, I dropped 1/2 a pound, instead of gaining as I would have before!  WooHoo...this weight may come off yet!

Ricksters,  Good for you!  I had a great day last week, but then my wife ordered a "Pizza Box" from Pizza Hut.  They have pasta (beefaroni), garlic bread, marinara sauce, and pizza.  I ate too much, and went in heavy for dialysis on Monday.  Then, yesterday, I had PD surgery, and I hurt like hell.  It still hurts.  I tried to skip the pain killer this morning, and it helped me urinate, but I started to hurt so much I took a pill.  I look forward to PD, but the transition isn't easy.  I kick myself because I was starting to adapt to my new fistula pretty well.  The worst part is that the doctor tied up the fat on my right side so the left side wouldn't sag or something.  Yow!  It hurts whenever I stand up or kneel over.  Last week I felt like a million dollars.  Today I feel like two cents.  LOL.

Hang in there Whamo - it will heal and then you'll feel better.  Tied up your right side?  Interesting...  Why?

Ricksters - each day should get a little better than the day before.  Keep going.    Grumpy

Whamo, you really are over the worst! I didn't take the pain pills after the first day, I did not like how the oxycoodone made me feel!  If the nursing staff didn't warn you, make sure you take colace or miralax...no body warned me until too late that surgery could (and would for me) cause constipation...You wanna talk about pain!  I am glad I'm doing PD...for me, it was the best option.

I can understand having a good day yesterday was a good day for me also.  I just started dialysis on May 15, 2012 but since they have been sticking my fistual this is the second time that there were no bells and whistles and when I got home I had a lot of energy and cooked a spaghetti dinner.  Hoping I have more days like this in the future. :cheer:

:thx; Thanks Boswife, Cas & DialyzingDiva for the good words!  I am feeling much more positive now than I have at any time since I started Pd over a year ago!  I have lost 2 pounds this week...the first time I have seen a true trend downward vs. upward!  Staying positive...that's the ticket!  :cheer:

Why do they tie off the stomach?  The doctor said it's to avoid another surgery, later.  I guess tubes get stuck in the fat or something.  By tying it off it avoids the problem before it starts.  I'm off the pain pills (1/10th the power of morphine), which didn't work real well anyways.  I've taken fiber, the colace, and and a new "gentle laxative" I got at the store, and still, no BM after 3 days.

I was recommended to use ducolax....Worked for me!

Dulcolax works well, as does MiraLax. I take Miralax every day to keep my system moving. It's one of the drawbacks of doing PD. Have to make sure you don't get constipated as it really messes up your PD drains.
