Authorities say a man broke into a South Carolina dialysis clinic where he had recently been suspended and poured bleach into water used in the machines.
Lexington County Sheriff James Metts says patients could have died if workers at the West Columbia clinic hadn't detected the bleach in the water before the machines would have been used.
Deputies said 49-year-old Donald Foster III was arrested Wednesday and charged with attempted murder and second-degree burglary.
Investigators say Foster was suspended from his job as an equipment manager July 2, then broke into the clinic July 6 and poured bleach into a water tank. Workers discovered the contaminated water during a test.
A bond hearing for Foster is scheduled for Thursday. It wasn't clear if he had an attorney.
