The Hamilton Chapter of the PKD Foundation of Canada offers free 2-hour talks, 6 times a year.

The next one is on May 20 from 2pm.

Topic: Polycystic Kidney Disease: A Pediatrician's Point of View

Dr. Keith Lau, Pediatric Nephrologist, has clinical interest in various kidney diseases related to inflammation. He also treats children who have hypertension, kidney failure and require dialysis and / or transplantation.
Currently, Dr. Lau is Associate Professor and Head of the Nephrology Division in the Department of Pediatrics at McMaster.

My one twin daughter has evidene of cysts on her kidneys, she is only 13 yrs old.

Diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease at age 19.
Renal Failure at age 38 (2010) came about 2 hrs close to dying. Central line put in an emergency.
Began dialysis on Aug 15, 2010.
Creatine @ time of dialysis: 27. I almost died.
History of High Blood Pressure
I have Neuropathy and Plantar Fasciitis in My Feet
AV Fistula created in Nov. 2011, still buzzing well!
Transplanted in April, 2013. My husband and I participated in the Living Donor paired exchange program. I nicknamed my kidney "April"
Married 18 yrs,  Mom to 3 kids to twin daughters (One that has PKD)  and a high-functioning Autistic son

Keep your eye on the website for details on upcoming events!

Yesterday, the talk was on "Staying Positive with a Chronic Illness"...

There will be a 1st anniversary and pre-Walk PARTY on August 26th!

Walk will take place in Guelph's Riverside Park on Sept. 9, 2012.
