Yes, it was powerful and he's an exceptionally good film-maker, able to manipulate the viewer so that they have little choice but to go gushy and gooey because he uses his son and tugs at our heart-strings.  However, I'm a cynical bint and so I don't fully 'buy' into it, and I don't understand the 'cover the night' event (won't we all have heard of Kony by then and who's going to have to clear the posters/stickers up?) and the cost to the ordinary person ... why do we have to buy the posters - if it's THAT important why can't we just download and print them off ourselves?

Don't get me wrong ... Joseph Kony is an evil man and the LRA need to be stopped completely. This film has created an awareness of something tragic that very few people knew about until it went viral.  But ... I don't know ... it seems odd to me. See, I had to stop watching the film because I found it too irritating. The filmmaker came off as totally self-absorbed and arrogant to me, which is not the way to get the attention of people like me (the liberals who will be most interested in joining your anti-LRA campaign.) He had this heartbreaking moment with a child who looked about my son's age, but he was making wild promises to this boy that implied that the filmmaker did not seem to fully grasp the gravity of their situation. The young child had much more maturity and reserve than the grown man who was claiming he could stop this. Wow. Does he think he's the first? Africa is overwhelmingly lawless and child soldiers and child murder are nothing new. I was amazed when he said he'd been working in Uganda for 10 years because he sounded SUCH a novice.

When the filmmaker brought his own son out to discuss this, I was done. We don't need to see your cutesy home videos, that is wholly undercutting the terror and devastation that untold millions of children experience in Africa every day. This whole thing reminds me of that plonker Morgan Spurlock who made a film (which I have not seen) entitled something like Where in the World is Osama bin Laden? He got it into his head one day that he was going to go out and find Osama himself. Unless he was on Seal Team 6 I would say it did not go as planned.

Shame because Africa is the most beautiful place I have ever seen, but the corruption makes most of it uninhabitable. As far as I've heard, the Obama administration has been giving the LRA some attention, and I think he's our best hope for taking that monster down.

I had not heard of Kony until today and agree that it is a terrible situation. However, I can't see what I can do to change it. Donating money that may never get to the proper place doesn't seem to be the solution.

My take is support the cause and awareness but not the organization (Invisible Children). The film is definitely very well done but I don't expect any less from an organization that puts most of their proceeds into film making.
